  1. I think he is talking about the first hole below the spring where the river makes the first bend and has the rock high bank and just below Crabtree creek.
  2. Welcome: I will give you this link that will give great information on Park and Blue ibbon ares on the Current River. They post Movies almost every day of the season with great tips. FaceBook Link
  3. I tie this version of the San Juan Worm and call it a Trout Candy Worm. #14 hook,Tungsten bead, Non lead wire, covered with Flash Back tinsel, Chenille,Copper wire, Ostrich hurl. And a shorty beaded one. Both good fish catching options.
  4. Leland Lures (Trout Magnet Folks) make a 6'6" rod for 1/16 oz jigs and retails for under $40.00. Great rod.
  5. Look at the Phantom line from Leland Lures, good and at a fair price.
  6. Look at the Hendrix Outdoors Truckee River waders. The are top quality Simms type wader at $181.00. Will last and wear great. I would suggest buying a good quality wader NEW and not take a chance on getting someone else leak to have to fix. The money spent now will be saved down the road. Here they are
  7. They have improved on a lot of the flaws in the older models. I love the dubbing wind on it no more loop's and the need for three hands. & the way you can re enforce Peacock herl.
  8. Check this out before you buy The dubbing part
  9. I have been around the area of Zoe for 26 years and seen first hand what went on there when they had 3000 people camped there. Nothing has been said about the amount of damage these big crowds do the environment on the Current river. All the waste that is put on the ground (Human waste) that washes into the water contributory of the Current River. I am sure before it's all said and done the DNR will be involved. A small Woodstock was what they were holding two or three time a summer. They did have so called security guards on the property, but that was only a joke. The guards were part of the problem by ignoring the trouble spots. I hate to see anyone loose their livelihood with out having the benefit of defending themselves, But the law is just that the law and put in place by the people to protect the people who stood to be hurt by actions or reactions from illegal activity's. The enforcement of the law's in a small southern Missouri community could not have had time or resources to baby set these crowds. Little lone hold a raid on 3000 people in the wooded area at Zoe. So what should have been done?? The owner had to know what was going to happen and simply pushed his luck to a point that now he is in this shape. As the old saying given an inch and took a mile.
  10. I was down in the Blue Ribbon area yesterday 11-10 and saw 13 anglers just below the park boundary at the Cooks cabin hole, and five autos at Tan Vat. This area takes a beating in the week after the park closes. Their was a Caddis hatch going on for about two hours fish rising all over the place and they was VERY shy. found that a 24 CDC Trico Spinner, & the Wilcox Micro pearl midge #24 was the only thing I could get them to sip. The Glo Ball (Egg Pattern) actually made the run and hide. Crackleback's would get only a rise and quick look but no takers. The Olive wooly worm in a 16 had one taker, (small bow.)I saw three good size brown trout that was in the 3lb range, but the acted like wild range cattle, see you and run as far as they could from you & hide under the cut bank of lay down. 6X was just to big for tippet so I went with 7X not much better but at-least had some takers. Good luck! Beautiful weather and water conditions.
  11. Yes they are. It's one of the flies I tied that worked so well they have them in the shop. The Red, Blue, Chartreuse,& Yellow are all great fish catching patterns on the Current River,& Eleven Point, Spring River. Tying some Midge patterns now to test out and see if they work well. I have not named them yet. As you can see I am the holiday spirit at the bench by the colors. LOL
  12. Fish it dry (ON SURFACE) through the normal drift. ( Normal Drift is fly drifting on the surface at same speed as current.) Then at the end of the drift when the current pulls it down ( Weight of the line in the current will pull the fly under the surface.) Then strip ( Hand pull it back) The fly is good when a hatch is occurring in the grass or edges of the grass line. Hope this helps.
  13. Pacific Fly is the one who make them. I picked up mine at Reed's, and they worked good for me. and they were only $.50.
  14. Dry! and at the end of the dry drift a strip back over grass or edge of grass.
  15. Some of my top producing Crackbacks
  16. For the spin-cast folks and the 6# and up in fly these are a nice float. easy on and adjustable. You can also ad water as a weight if needed.
  17. Size 16,18,or 20 hook, Tungsten bead peacock, Peacock herl bright green,June Bug Fashabou, Danville flat waxed thread, ultra wire small copper. I have found this to be a great little fly in the fall in clear water.
  18. I along with Mark Van Patten (Of the Tying Bench) are looking for interested fly anglers to Help organize a chapter of The FFF, (Federation Of Fly Fishers.) This chapter would represent the upper Current River, & surrounding waters. The upper Current River has some of the topmost fly fishing in the State with both put and take & Blue Ribbon trout fishing. Not only Trout fishing, the area has an abundance of warm water species to be taken with fly's. Please check the FFF out at this link and if interested in becoming a member & believe it would help the quality of fly fishing in this area let us know. This is not a spam for any shop or profit making organization, it is only to inquire into the possibilities to improve the sport of fly fishing on the Current River and surrounding waters. link to FFF. Thank you!
  19. Be sure to check in at the Reed's fly shop they have the info on what is working day by day.
  20. Montauk received enough rain last night to raise the water level a small amount and gave it a bit of color. Here is the report I took off Facebook. My link
  21. They also provide a viedo update on fishing on their facebook page Reeds Fly & Tackle. Complete with tips on what flies are working. Seen some of my friend on it.
  22. I guess they have some files but nothing for tying or about everything you look for in a fly shop. There is a Top Notch fly shop in Montauk now.
  23. Great pizza at the top of the hill!! Feed's two for $9.99. Not to mention the store full of stuff.
  24. The Griffith Gnat #22 is working good, the Elk hair caddis #16 is also a fun fly during the hot part of the day. Loads of nice size fish in the fly area to play with.
  25. Just got back from Montauk, and the fishing was good. Fished dry fly's and the BH Prince did good. I always check the daily river and fishing report on facebook reeds fly & tackle. It's has be a good tool for seeing what is going on.
