  1. I don't cut the loins out of a lamb without killing it first, same with a fish for me, common courtesy I guess.
  2. can't take them anywhere!
  3. As outfitters we like to tell war stories about stupid behavior or strange requests, at the end someone ALWAYS says, they were from St. Louis weren't they, 90% of the time they are. Of course the other 10% are the ones on this forum. More fly fishermen come here from the lou than from KC, probably not anymore though.
  4. Wouldn't that make it an irregular wooly?
  5. I guess you are right! I'd probably just pay the $30 instead of fighting gravity, especially if you are out of shape like me.
  6. They are crooks trying to make an easy buck. Bicycling in the Ozarks around the rivers is the only way to go, the downhills will get you enough speed up that you can coast up the hills.
  7. We pulled them to age the fish, cut a cross section and they have rings like trees. Love the idea of inlaying them in knives and rods.
  8. I'm with you on the Karma thing. If I don't ice I try to brain stab.
  9. If they allowed baskets I have a feeling it would be similar, only with fatter whiter guys wearing orvis waders. No offense fatter whiter guys with Orvis waders:-)
  10. Early March we will have our MCFA meeting and I'm sure the Current river outfitters will have some interesting opinions on this. From what I see the main change will be closing trails down to gravel bars where primarily locals set up camp and party. Can't imagine this will affect tourism or tax money as these are probably locals using these areas. I understand frustration from locals, but if these places get like the public accesses around here it is a breeding ground for bad behavior. The horse thing needs to be addressed and this could have an effect on tourism and taxes. I too am skeptical about government intervention, but I guess that is what the NSR is all about.
  11. Been a long time, snow on ground and frozen ground means armadillos go hungry, hopefully.
  12. Unless you have fast internet Vimeo stinks, I rearely can get it to play and when it does it stutters a bunch, you tube is much better.
  13. It is much worse to grab a fish with dry hands then it would be to toss them in. I ALWAYS put my hands in the water before handling a fish even in winter. It is all about protecting the slime coat. Keeping the fish out of the water for too long is also very harmful, if you cant get the picture right away hold them in the water until you are ready. Tossing them in probably isnt great for a fish but unless it is violent I doubt it really hurts them long term. You harm the slime coat and they may die a week later.
  14. I saw several dead ones after that first extended cold snap, guessin this will kill some more. I think this snow on the ground for a week or more is what really hurts them. It cert*inly wont kill them all, but I bet it will help.
  15. I've seen and heard of quite a few dead 'dillos around, this kind of winter is why they used to live only in the south, I certainly hope this knocks them back for a while!
  16. I saw that the increased temp. In the waters of the Pacific are what have caused this wet cold winter by changing the jetstream.
  17. Man those redfish have oil spots all over them, my wife caught one once with over 20 oil spots, so sad. People should stay away!
  18. Love it, I used to do the same thing when attending Pitt State.
  19. Makes perfect sense to leave the ramp open as an unmaintained access but this is the govt. Must be worried about liability if someone gets hurt. This is why government cutbacks are so difficult, there is always a small number of people fighting for whatever cuts they want to make, get congressmen involved, cuts don't get made, they get re-elected everybody happy, deficit keeps going up. The lack of common sense on the part of govt. officials is what bugs me, but they have their own game to play and the only reason I can come up with for many decisions is fear of litigation. Maybe they could pass a bill that relieves the govt. of any liability on public lands, but then they would probably let all facilities fall apart.
  20. Fly fishing for whites can be addictive. Mix in a few hybrids and you'll eventually end up dead on the shore with a clouser stuck in your arm.
  21. Great job Tucker, it was outstanding, I too was disappointed by the tying speed of Mr. Wise.
  22. Agreed on the heron thing Al. I love predators and rarely mention seeing a deer, squirrel, or rabbit. If I see a bobcat , coyote, or otter I always tell someone. That being said legal harvest is fine by me.
  23. You mean it's not always open? :-)
  24. Can only speak for NFoW, so few people fish here anyway and there are so many fish that spawn over the course of several months that I seriously doubt it would have any effect. Water levels and weather play a much bigger role than does human intrusion. Might help some of the smaller streams, but so would stopping fishing when it's hot. None of these fish are native so what good are they if we can't fish for them.
