  1. My favorite time of the season. Can't wait until the game tomorrow night. Should be a fun season, with lots of good games right out of the gate and a playoff to add to the end of year excitement. Go Tigers.

    Skunk Removal

Yeah, this would be pretty boring if he trapped the skunk on day one...I figure we are only halfway through the story. He may end up trapping a mating pair of mountain lions before too long.
  3. Yeah...I think he is done with the rams for sure.
  4. I would think it is almost a given he was wearing a brace, but a lot of differing opinions if they are really beneficial or not. Really feel bad for Bradford and the Rams need a good season to generate some interest. This is certainly a tough blow for the team.
  5. Yeah total bummer and I can't help but think he was rushed back into action a bit to quickly. I had my ACL, MCL, and meniscus surgery and it took me a full two years before I was 100%. My doctor only let me run in a straight line 9 months after surgery and did not clear me for sports until 18months. Even with 24 hour care of a professional athlete there is only so much you can do rehab wise until the body strengthens the new ACL enough to have a sturdy knee. For some they are not ready 1 year removed.

    Dgb

Looks like DGB's waiver to play this year was denied by the NCAA. I wonder if he will ever play for OU since he will be eligible for the draft next year. My guess is no even though I think he is still very raw and could use some seasoning.
  7. I see ton's of them around my house in the spring. Before we moved to the "country'" I rarely saw them, but I was shocked how many we see at our new place. I actually found one on our deck one morning...which is about 12 feet off the ground. I guess the dog must have carried him up the stairs, because there was now way he got up their on his own.
  8. I think if the fish can survive the first year after the initial stocking the chances of survival probably goes way up. That has been difficult the last several years. I never really understood the spring stocking on places like the Meramec. The fish go from a raceway being fed to a stream that usually has huge floods with spiking water temperatures. The fish can hardly acclimate...that doesn't seem like a good recipe for survival in an already marginal area. Should be interesting to see if this helps.
  9. I hope the Royals can pull it off the last month and a half. Not sure many Cardinal fans really dislike the Royals....although some are probably still a bit bitter about 1985. KC has some loyal fans and I always enjoyed my trips to Kauffman to see the Royals/Cards play. Would like to make a trip to see a Sporting KC game. Cardinals are just not very good this year...they probably still make the wild card with only Pittsburgh and San Francisco as the only other contenders for those two sports. The pitching is pretty good and will only get better next year. Just need to upgrade a bit on offense in the off season, but this year I am not expecting much. In fact is probably one of the more boring Cards team I have watched in awhile. I am not sure people are all that upset...it is one of those years and we didn't trade any of our prospects for a quick fix. Sometimes a team just doesn't gel and this is one of those years.

    Skunk Removal

I for one have been enjoying reading about your trapping adventure. It is great you are bonding with your toddler too. This thread has been fun to follow for me.
  11. I think I remember a post from phil in which a mdc biologist mentioned that while browns prefer slighty warmer water they are much more sensitive to changes in water temperature and composition. Basically rainbows are better at surviving less than ideal conditions even though browns prefer a bit warmer water. The meremac is not really good for either...a bit to warm for rsinbows and a bit to turbid during flood for browns.
  12. This is why I like Montauk....very few if any buildings along the stream...and much more natural.
  13. Tennis shoes...that are a solid material, no mesh or running shoes (these usually let in gravel). I buy a half to full size to small (so you don't get gravel in around you ankles). This works pretty well for me and I just wear ankle socks with them....never have had to clean them out while wading.
  14. That part was a bit confusing. In the article it made it sound like future browns will be held until they are 10-12 inches then stocked as opposed to the 8 inch variety, but then it mentions a one time stocking of fish of up to 15 inches this year. I do remember the brook trout thing....guess that didn't work out, but would they have stocked them instead of the brown's if it did....that would have been sweet, but I can't imagine brook trout doing well in the Meramec at all. I took the additional size of the stocked brown trout as a by product of the parasite issue with the real goal to improve the rearing of rainbow trout. The different stocking times for brown trout seemed geared to helping the red ribbon area and the increased size probably won't hurt. Should be interesting...it is tough/marginal place for trout, but close to home. Would be nice to see it fish better.
  15. Should be interesting to see how this plays out for the brown trout. I would think fall stocking and slight larger size would be a good thing. http://mdc.mo.gov/newsroom/mdc-stocks-larger-brown-trout-meramec-river
  16. Really interested to see how he rebounds next year. A part of me thinks he has been injured this year and a part of me thinks he just done. Not the same player this year.
  17. Been very dry at my house this year...seem like the year of have and have not's. It is not all that different than 2012 for me precipitation wise. Temperatures have been the saving grace though. I can still see the lawn mower tracks in my yard from when I cut it 2 1/2 weeks ago. Interesting about the Meramec. Was it like that in 2012? . My subdivision pond is actually experiencing the opposite effect this year. It is usually full of algae and is about half of what it normally is...not sure if cool dry weather has prevented if from getting out of control like most years.

    Skunk Removal

This is entertaining. I too am looking forward to the final chapter.
  19. Great report and bummer on your lost fish, but sounds like a heck of battle. Sometimes with big fish like that the fight is the most exciting part especially if you get to see them a couple times. Sounds like a wild couple minutes. Brad Pitt would have gone over those falls though...just saying. ha!

    World Cup

I have actually been watching more of the MLS this year...it is better than I thought, but still not like the European leagues. It keeps me interested enough, but It is hard to match the intensity of the World Cup. College football practice starts on the Monday so not to far away...
  21. Thanks Al. I think at first we will be mostly on the lakes with the rivers to come soon after.
  22. Yeah...I realize that one boat won't do it all unfortunately. . Just to be clear I am not taking the kids out until they are a bit older, can swim, and understand the dangers etc. I really appreciate the advice and think I am gonna do both...a jon and a couple canoes/kayaks. I have some time so I figure jon first and the others when the kids get older.
  23. It may be more fun to not pay attention and just see what happens.
  24. Great job Seth and a great fish!
  25. Best of luck and have a great trip!
