  1. Video starts after the commercial http://www.bing.com/...-lapse/20yphpkr
  2. Good article....I still think they play after this year....probably sooner than people think. I bet it is played at a nuetral site in KC.
  3. I can tell you that some of my friends were hestitant on our yearly trips to Montauk because they were a bit confused as to what to do in what zone. They fish maybe once a year. I explained it, but they still seemee a bit confused. Are regulations enough to keep people away in large numbers...probably not and regulations are a good thing....but I can see were Ron is coming from. It might intimidate/confuse a few people that don't fish as seriously as we all do. Most people want to do the right thing and have fun, but they don't want some guy yelling at them if they do something wrong or encroach to close to someone. Factor in the tackle, boats, different species, different regulations, different types of water and some of the jerks that fish those waters (crazy landowners in included) I can see how it might be a bit much for some newbie who just wants to wet a line. Look what happens on this board when someone makes a mistake...they hear about it a lot! I think fisherman in general could be a lot more welcoming to the newbies on the stream that might just need a bit of help. You can usually tell the difference between someone purposely breaking the rules and someone who is just unsure of what to do. I guess it goes back to how you approach things, but take a few moments to help a newbie and in the process use that time to eductate them a bit. It can go along way in my IMO.
  4. Even though Mizzou blew a huge lead I feel better about there chances to make a deep run in the tournment. I was a bit worried they were going to get beat bad at KU. Yeah, blowing a lead is never good, but getting up 19 at KU is not easy either. They will not play in a more hositle environment than that and hopefully they will learn from it. It just shows you what they can do when they are on...they can truly beat anyone. KU is a much better team than they were at the start of the year. KState was just a bad game....
  5. Mic, you are making me think to hard for a friday afternoon. j/k. I'll tidy it up a bit. Starting five: #16 Elk hair Caddis/Green/Olive body, #22 Grey midge #16 Grey Scud, #16 Prince Nymph #10 Natural colored slumpbuster
  6. My starting five on any water: #16 Caddis and #22 midge (various colors) #16 grey scud and #16 prince nymph #10 slumpbuster (various colors) Cool topic!
  7. I would recommend these without question. Going on two years for me and they fit great. I use them 20-30 times per year and have had zero problems. I am hard on equipment so for a good value these get my vote. They were also $30 cheaper a month ago...spring prices can be a bit higher. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Dry-Plus8482-G-II-Stockingfoot-Chest-Waders-Regular/749369.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch%2F%3FN%3D%26No%3D60%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dwaders%26Ntx%3Dmode%252Bmatchallpartial%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts%26WTz_st%3D%26WTz_stype%3DSP%26form_state%3DsearchForm%26search%3Dwaders%26searchTypeByFilter%3DAllProducts&Ntt=waders&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products
  8. Out of curiosity I made the short drive to Prairie Lake during my lunch hour. Looks better than last time I was there and certainly accessable. Might just be a winter thing, but it looks like some of the vegation had been cut along the bank. Looked a bit dingy, but might be worth a shot.
  9. Thanks a bunch for the great info. I have fished some of the streams on 55 this last summer as well as Joachim creek a bit. Looks l may need to get a canoe for the Big River. Thanks again.
  10. Ron that was wrench's fly. I am not that creative yet:)
  11. I see...thanks for the info.
  12. I pretty much agree that it needs to be a 3 pronged approach education, enforcement, and regulation. It would be interesting to know which demographic is harvesting the most fish. Is is legal anglers that harvest their limit within the law or is it the poachers. If is the legal anglers then one would assume they would also follow stricter regulations if enacted. Over time that should yield better results. If it is the poacher's that are responsible for most of the harvest then the regulations might not have the effect we would hope for. In that case enforcement of the regulations might yield the best results.
  13. Do you by chance know the approximate depth of that area before they started deepening itl? Any chance they add any boulders etc? The fly fishing only area certainly seemed shallower last year especially as you worked upstream away from the darn. It seemed a bit featureless, but I also kinda liked it...made for pretty good dry fly fishing at times.
  14. My fiance and I are buidling a house out toward the Hillsoro area and will be moving the end of May. From looking at the map it looks the Big River and the Mineral Fork are pretty close. Are those two areas wadeable? Any other areas out that way? Not looking for anyone's secret spot, just general info on new places to wet a line. I C/R only. Also, any tips on the best way to get to Current from Hillsboro? A quick look and it looks like I might have to go up back toward 44 through St. Clair.
  15. I have had the pleasure of being in New Orlean's a couple times for Mardi Gras. It was a blast and makes our version a bit tame in comparsion. Saw some things that can best be described as very disturbing, but strangely entertaining. It was kind of like looking at a car accident...you know you shouldn't stare but you can't help it.
  16. Use to get down there each year, but gonna miss it this year. Keep your shirt on:)
  17. Sweet looking fly. Love just coming up with random stuff. Looks like a winnner to me. Should drive bass nuts!
  18. Lol. That is great.
  19. I don't know I am a bit conflicted on guns in general. It might be a right under the consituition, but it was a very different world back then. I guess there are two ways to look at this and this is the best analogy I can come up with. Would you feel safer if every country had a nuclear weapon? Or would you feel safer if no one did? Pretty sure the Cuban Missile crisis didn't make anyone feel better, but we had lot's of weapons. I kinda feel the same way about handguns....the more that are around the greater the chance disputes can escalate and become deadly....especially in situations when emotion and adrenaline in an otherwise normal people cause them to make bad decisions. I would feel safer in a room in which no one had guns than in one in which everyone had one.
  20. Yeah me too. I think Arkansas has the potential to be a good one, especially in basketball with Mike Anderson coaching them. Once cooler heads prevail I bet KU and MU play at some point in the not to distant future. Probably in Kansas City.
  21. This is great. http://www.lostlette...kindergartener/ A better article... http://www.kansascity.com/2012/02/12/3425341/color-this-little-wildcat-purple.html
  22. The problem with the reguatlions is (according information from the MDC in an earlier thread this year) it is in fact legal to harvest 4 brown trout per day from a trout park as long as they meet the 15 inch minimum length limit. This is a big issue on the Current when the Brown's moved up from the river last summer to escape the heat and 40+ where harvested. It is a loophole that was exploited is my understanding.
  23. I just bought a 7 for smallies and pond largmouth thinking and 8 may have been to heavy for these parts. Second guessing a bit after reading this:)
  24. IMO Brown trout aren't really managed as put and take. They are stocked at a much lower rate than the rainbows and brown's have the ability to grow much larger than rainbows. Seem like a waste to have a 15 inch brown harvested considering they can get much much larger. The Current is a great example in which one section the fish are safe and the other an angler can harvest 4 brown trout a day. The fish regualry move between the end of Montauk and the Blue Ribbon section. Seems silly and poor managment of the resource in this area. I generally think harvest of a non native stocked exotic is kind of silly to be honest. Seems like we could save a lot of money with a bit more emphasis on C/R in some areas (not the white ribbon sections or area they can't survive past a winter season) and still have the ability to harvest 1 Brown over 18. Use the leftover money for habitat improvement etc....for all species and streams. Under this scenario seems like a win win to me.
