  1. I've considered getting an Allen based on the price alone- I have never seen one in person though. Is their weight a problem? Specs seem heavy. Sure does look good on that Sage Bass rod. Nice fish.
  2. Brian- do you use the Maxima Flouro for nymph rigs? I have way too many little spools rolling around in my truck but it seems like a cost effective method to transfer those big spools onto empty small spools.
  3. Ya I'm cool with it- its not like I ever get to go fishing these days anyway.
  4. I had a Sahara seize up after getting wet. They told me the same crap about the "tight tolerances." They ended up sending me a new reel- haven't used it yet though. Might sell it after my last experience. They are definitely not good for wade fishing or creek fishing. My $40 Mitchell from wally world, however, has never had a problem.
  5. Mine are in the mail- I went with a classic- the ol' "Butt Monkey." Should have remembered to take pics.
  6. Ha!- I guess I have been "stippling." Didn't know there was a word for it. Mine don't look near as nice as the others on here but I crank them out pretty fast and I tend to lose them in the weeds/trees pretty often.
  7. I've had issues with P-line too- especially the hybrid. I lost 2 nice football jigs last time I was out using 10 lb P-line hybrid. I wrote to the company and they sent me a free spool of their straight mono- which I don't mind.
  8. Ive been building a few poppers lately as well- nothing fancy but they catch fishes.
  9. The limitation I see with fly fishing is anytime you need to fish deep. It is pretty tough to fish a fly past about 25 feet. I disagree about covering water though- a guy with a good cast and a 9wt can cover a ton of water very quickly. Caught this dude on a popper on my 6wt the other day.
  10. So does whacking them on the head with a rock. Might as well at that point.
  11. Ive never understood why people hold trout that way- even if you are going to keep the trout- why hold it by the gills?
  12. Dang man I've done the exact same thing. Almost peed myself.
  13. http://flyinthesouth.blogspot.com/2013/08/little-red-river-trip-reports.html
  14. Matt- I use heavily weighted scuds. Either a black tungsten bead with some laterally tied lead or full lead wraps- often these are too heavy though for low water. I also use the McClellan's type scuds made with lead tape. Drop a midge off one of those and you are in business.
  15. I always say no picture= no fish.
  16. Billet- i tie the foam wiggle minnows too. I just buy the preformed foam at the fly shop- its not really expensive and i think you get 6 bodies. For as often as I use that particular fly, i decided I'd rather just buy the bodies. The balsa version is easier to carve than a balsa popper to be honest and it wiggles better that the foam version.
  17. You can kill it with scuds up by the dam on the Little Red at times. I've had days where that was the only fly I tied on. I like the grey with blue wire as well Lancer.
  18. I have made these several times without any mechanical assistance and it is not fun at all. I did some for my swap flies in last year's brown trout fly swap- The poorly constructed "Home Invaders."
  19. I only say that because you don't get as many "explosive" hits. Lots of the hits are just under the surface. This one is a size 2 but the size 6 has caught more basses for me.
  20. I've been using balsa divers like this one with success. Not as fun as a popper though.
  21. Dude Billet I think your the one that should be answering the questions- those look real nice. I have found that all I need is black or white with a Gami B10 hook- with a marabou tail and a bunch of legs preferably.
  22. Im in- pm sent.
  23. Ya for real man- those are nice. I do a bunch of poppers but I use nail polish to paint them and usually don't bother with epoxy. Those look like they were tied by professionals- you know, tiny South-Asian women.
  24. Ya that would probably be a great idea... although i was thinking bout getting that new Rio "Perception" line. Which color/ what condition is the Gold?
  25. I've got a barely used Rio Grand line. Its on my H&H FTX 6wt and it is just a bit much for that rod. It would be fantastic on a faster rod and it is super slick. I think it would work really well on a slower 7wt as well. Let me know if you're interested. Im located in Central AR and we could work out shipping. This line has no nicks or cuts and isn't even a little bit dirty. I think I have used it a total of 2 times- once for trout and one short trip to the golf course pond. I have the box for it too.
