gonefishin
I agree. Like you I will do my fishing with a rod and reel. Like I said before for those who like it more power to them. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Members joefish
Sorry i havnt visited this post for awhile. I personally know several hand fisherman and see the results of a few that I dont know. My problem is I have personally seen, or seen photos of catchs of guys holding up 5 or 6 flatheads all weighing between 40 and 60 lbs. I just think its a waste. Catch and release is a good idea but i have never heard of a hand fisherman releasing anything. I cant imagine the DOC thinking that taking big fish while they are nesting is a good idea, but i havnt really heard that much opposition or opinion about it from the DOC. I havnt visited their website latey though either. I also havnt heard any results from last years open season experiment or whatever it was suppose to be. So if anyone knows where I can get some more info about it let me know. Maybe legalizing and regulating it would be the way to go to keep more of the giants in the water. I guess we will see one way or the other. Probing the depths, driving lunkers from their homes!
Steve Smith
I wrote our MO State government represenatives questioning whether the State should be making conservation decisions over the experts at MDC. They all replied that the MDC was neutral on the hand fishing issue. It still concerns me that "good ole boys" are taking care of a handfull of their local voters at the fish and wildlife's expense. Like many of you, I don't care to try hand fishing. I just think the lawmakers should leave conservation laws to the experts. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 23, 2006 Root Admin Share Posted May 23, 2006 I just think the lawmakers should leave conservation laws to the experts. This is the issue, not hand fishing. Hand fishing is just an innocent bystander in this issue which is unfortunate. We don't want lawmakers creating fish and game rules.
Wayne SW/MO
We don't want lawmakers creating fish and game rules. I wouldn't think many would argue with that, now if the legislature will just realize that. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman. damselfly
Hopefully, when these issues come up, we contact our legislators! Each one of us can make a difference. Does anyone know where SB1107 ended up in the last session?

Members hawgslayer
sorry to get off the topic a little bit, but noodling needs to have limits like only keeping a 2 fish that over 50. becuase I will agree with people that noodling can destroy catfishing in streams and rivers, but it should'nt do to much damage if only a few people harvest a few large fish from a stream. Now I would like to try noodling someday in the near future but i cant unless i find a good catfish stream. If fishins a sport, then I'm an athlete. Kayser
For those who take excessive amounts of large fish by noodling- may snapping turtle numbers soar. Rob WARNING!! Ham
I'm gonna go out on a limb here an assume that not a lot of folks C&R the Flatheads they catch. I just wish they would practice selective harvest.
