Members Big E Posted April 6, 2008 Author Members Posted April 6, 2008 Thanks for all the replies. The "triangle" mentioned is exactly the area that I have been looking at for work. I've applied for a couple jobs in WalMart, JB Hunt, and a couple small businesses but haven't heard any replies yet. Don't imagine I will for a while because they usually take a long time to respond. I'm in IT but I suppose with my retirement check coming in that I could probably make do with just an average job. I'll stick it out in the military another year or so before I do that though....no sense in taking a cut on the retirement for a slightly above minimum wage job. I'll have to look into those other companies you guys mentioned though....never know when someone needs a geek.
WebFreeman Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Terry is exactly right. On top of all that, the wages in Spfd. aren't competative at all, even at the major employers, unless you're able to make it upper, upper level management. Then employers have to be competitive nationally. Also, the Chamber of Commerce and the City's idea of economic development is 20-30 light manufacturing jobs or another call center (trust me, I used to work @ both). The City of Springfield is looking to cut their budget by 20%. Don't believe the hype of this being a great place to work and live. “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
John Berry Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Well I live in Cotter, Arkansas which is about ten miles from Mountain Home on the upper White river. I retired here for the fishing and I love the area and wouldn't want to live any where else. When people ask me about moving here, I always advise them to bring their own job. That is what I did and it has worked out. If you plan on making the big bucks being a fishing guide, I wish you luck. Monett has a decent golf course, it's close to Roaring River, the west end of Table Rock, and Beaver Dam.
Flysmallie Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 If your in IT you might try O'Reilly Auto Parts. Their home offices are in Springfield and as far as a big company, they aren't bad to work for. They just acquired another 1,300 stores or something like that, so I know they are busy. I worked there for 17 years before I escaped! I liked it and have a ton of great memories from that experience.
