Danoinark Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 That surprises me about Cabela's too. I might have went up the chain a bit on that one. Dano JD Here's a vintage Orvis Madison made in the early 70's by Plueger at its Fayetteville, Ar plant. There made just like the Medalist. jdmidwest Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 That looks like it is in pristine condition. Most of mine are made in England except for the new BBSII which I believe is made in China, GRrrrr. I have a few old Herter's, HI, Martin, Shakespere, and an unknown made in the USA. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Members AZ_Trout Posted July 16, 2008 Members Posted July 16, 2008 I thought I saved the guy's name and number, but so far I have not found it. I'll keep looking. You might take the reel into an other store - Sportsman's Wharehouse - if you have one and then compare the foot to an Okuma reel, in my case they were the same - even the spools interchange. Then you can call Okuma for the part. Or find the same reel, switch the foot so you are truely using your friends reel, and have a spare spool for a wet tip line. Good Luck Thighlines & Singing Reels
Danoinark Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Pat Cabela's lost some points with me today. I thought I would inquire with their customer service on line chat question section and this is what I got. I had too much time on my hands today I guess. Elaine S: Hi, my name is Elaine S. How may I help you? dan sears: Thank you Elaine. I am trying to find out who made your Deschutes fly reel that I don't think you carry anymore. I am needing to find the manufactuer for a part. Elaine S: I will look at that for you. dan sears: Thank you Elaine S: I am sorry, but this item is manufactured by one of Cabela's private vendors. Unfortunately, I am unable to give out any information pertaining to the manufacturer as well. dan sears: So you would not be able to get parts? Elaine S: Unfortunately, we would not be able to obtain parts on a discontinued reel. dan sears: Thank you You have disconnected. What is unclear to me is if they no longer sell the reel what is the problem in identifying the manufacturer. I see no benefit for them to at least contact the maker for the part and have it shipped to you. To me that would be real (reel) customer service. Well, I am not dissuaded I intend to fully find who the maker is now...they got me mad.... Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Gavin Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Pat, take your reel over to Tom Hargrove..He might be able to help you out..I had a serious mishap with my Hardy Bougle earlier this year.. Slipped on a muddy slope, fell and landed right on it..Bent the frame, and the spool. I thought it was toast and the current price of a replacement is more than twice what I paid for it. Tom shipped it off to a repair shop that he knows and got it fixed for $75. Replacing a reel foot should cost a lot less, he might even have something that fits on hand. Good Luck.
patfish Posted July 16, 2008 Author Posted July 16, 2008 Thanks Gavin. First I'm going to try and get some redemption for Dano from Cabela's. If no luck there, I'm headed to Tom's. He's the one that sold my buddy the rod. I'm sure he'll remember.
Members AZ_Trout Posted July 17, 2008 Members Posted July 17, 2008 Google - Okuma fly reels You can see the reels, their foot (usually a 2 screw attachmet), you can open up a diagram of parts and number for the reels. Looks like part 102 is the number for reel foot. See if they can seen you a reel foot - even if you have to find someone to weld or machine different holes, it might work. Members Ed Dowell Posted April 28, 2010 Members Posted April 28, 2010 Hello i might have one here at my shop whats the modle number on it?
Members AZ_Trout Posted April 29, 2010 Members Posted April 29, 2010 OK Now I'm just curious, it's been a year and a half..... Did you get the reel fixed? Did a Okuma foot fit it? I fixed one that way still working fine. Just wondering. Good luck. Thighlines & Singing Reels
Brian K. Shaffer Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Anyone could fix a reel with the same problem with JB Weld. Sometimes it is wise to drive a pin in both sections then JB Weld. It could have been fixed rather easily actually. Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
