I went to Bennett last week for a couple days. My question is. Do smokers know that cigarette butts are trash? There are litterally thousands of cigarette butts everywhere. The parking areas are covered with them. They float by me in the stream. It really is a shame.

I would think they are...

We used to pay our kids a penny each for picking them up around the resort. Accomplished two things... cleaned up the place plus made our kids absolutely sick of the smell and "yuky" part of smoking.

It's like anything else- the mindset of some people and the lack of appreciation of what we've been given to take care of.

I'm a smoker, but hopefully not for much longer, and I don't like to see them either.

I carry an empty film can in my vest and all cig butts go in there. NO exceptions.

I smoke too I wont throw one out the windo even. I mounted ash trays in my boat and when wading or walking I will put out the cigerrett and put the butt in my pocket. makes my wife mad when they end up in the washer and dryer but at least they are not on the ground for 1000 people to see or in the water for a fish to snack on.

I like it at stop signs where you see a pile dumped on the ground. Those eventually wash into the streams. Then to trash out the parks. I like it when there is a wide open section of the stream and a smoker has to get next to you upwind and light one up so all the smoke blows on me. :o

I have noticed the butts on the ground at Bennett in the past as well.... seems like there are lots of them clustered around benches in Zone #1 and on the "beach" at the Suzy hole in Zone #3

After looking at a few different sites about butt litter, they all said that butts can take anywhere from 3-15 years to completely dispose. Lets not forget that the purpose of the butt is to absorb some of the more dangerous chemicals, so throwing them on the ground to eventually wash back into our waters.

On keeping film canisters and such to store trash, i saw that fishpond has come out with little canisters that appear to be a little bigger than the film canisters, and they come with a built in clip for attaching to chestpacks and vests. they run for 13 bucks for a set of three, so im not sure if it wouldn't be better to just keep using film canisters and such, but it's nice to see some initiative on the part of tackle manufacturers to keep our streams and lakes healthy
