The MDC is saying changes are not a done deal and they are saying we have 30 days to calls in a voice our opinion.

I'm going to give them a call tomorrow.

I assume you are talking about the wealthiest Conservation Department in the Midwest putting it to us again on the free deer tags for landowners. Isn't it just great that this worthless organization with $160 million dollar budget now needs to charge landowners for deer tags when the state is on the verge of a deer population crisis.

Lets just do the math 75,000 screwed Missourians times $17 per tag = $1,275,000

and most probably shoot at least two deer so $2,550,000 so they can buy up more private property for the common good.

Sounds like spreading the land around to me.

They suck and I hope they read this. The people need to repeal their sales tax the next time it is up for a vote. This is an out of control government agency.

Do you have a phone number?

Seems like they'd be better off with emails or... maybe... a FORUM?

the bonus deer was $7 last year on 2 deer it would be 1,800,000 unless they have made more changes this is the first I have seen of this so I havent done any reasearch

Yes they are going up on all Permits.Right off the top of my head.$20 on Regular Deer Tag,$10 on Bonus,Trot Permit $10.Plus you can only get Free Tags if you own 80 continuous acres.Plus you have to go to the Courthouse and get proof you own it for more of a hassel.

I was going to call the Main Office in Jefferson City, tell them I just want to talk to someone over this matter. The Phone Number is 573-751-4115.I'm sure there is a Toll Free number just don't have it.

I guess there are 2 ways to look at this issue. Yes the Conservation Department does have the sales tax money and money from the purchase of hunting, fishing, trout and other tags. And I know the price of those tags are going to go up. But in order to provide the services, the land and the oppertunitie to use these resorses it takes money. We all enjoy resorses provided by the Conservation Department, whether we hunt, fish, canoe of just enjony the out doors.

Now for the land owner tags. I do think 80 acres is too far to go. But I have always thought 5 acres was too little to get a land owner tag. Where does anyone have 5 acres that they stricty deer or turkey hunt on. Next to the National Forrest? Maybe. And no one evre happens to wonders off their 5 acres by mistake and take a deer or turkey? I think 40 acres would have been a better choice. I my self own 3 1/2 acres, not enough for a land owner tag, but I always hunt other places anyway. I in a way am glad the Conservation Department is looking down the road to tougher times. Not waiting till it's too late to take action, to continue to provide the hunting and fishing oppertunities we all enjoy. Come on $20 for a deer tag isn't going to break anyone 5 acres or not.

Well on my 20 acres 3 people can hunt it safely.I have killed 6 Deer it in one season off it.Yes it does hurt if the only meat you eat is wild Game and you are on a fixed income.Plus why should my neighbor that has 120 acres, who sets watching for Deer going to the Food Plots I put in with money out of my pocket be able to take advantage of Free Tags?

Yes I do buy Archery Tags and Bonus Tags, but I do like have the Free Tags to help out.On the property that I pay Taxes on and take care of.Oh the neighbor that has 120 acres said I was killing all the Deer in the country because I killed them 6 off my place.I killed 4 last season off it.

Come on, guys, I just ain't buying this "fixed income" stuff. If you can't afford $20 you can't afford to buy ammunition or the electricity to run the freezer or the gas to go to town or drive to your land. As for the landowner stuff, I agree that 80 acres as the cut-off point is probably too much, but I also agree that 5 acres or 10 acres is too little. I own 40 acres, and I'd say that two hunters could safely hunt with rifles on it, but it all depends upon a lot of factors from topography to food plots to proximity to houses, etc. so I'm not sure what the arbitrary cut-off point should be.

I just simply don't understand bad-mouthing MDC for buying land. For crying out loud, just where do you think people would be able to go if there wasn't a lot of public land? And why is it better to have more land in private ownership, from a hunting or fishing standpoint? It ain't like MDC is holding a gun to your head and making you sell them the land. If you own a piece of hunting property, it should make NO difference to you whether MDC buys land or not, and if you don't, you probably are gonna be happy they do.

MDC is far from perfect, and if you have gripes with them, by all means let them know in no uncertain terms. But to advocate repealing the sales tax is quite simply cutting off your nose to spite your face.

What tools do the people have that will work?

Calling and letting these bafoons know our displeasure? Gee this works every time doesn't it.

or

Prying loose their ecomomic engine?

How much public land would be enough? Specifics please.

I also think it would be great if everyone affected by this change would not harvest the deer they normally would sending populations into a crisis.
