patfish Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 bobtu, you don't need a guide at Bennett. All you need to do is have enough time to talk to others and find out what is working and where. I've never had anyone be rude when I was struggling and they were slaying them. I just look over at them or wait til they get off the stream and say, "alright, I give, what are they biting on?" Sometimes they'll put a couple of flies in your hand to boot.
FishinCricket Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Hmm, interesting. I was basing that statement on the fact that some guys got busted for having a stringer of smallies during the C&R season several years back. I'll have to look into it deeper....but heck the Ranger should know better than me, for sure. A mess of G'eyes, baked beans and hushpuppies sounds pretty good. Update (edit): Nope, here's the way it reads word for word. No fish may be possessed during the catch & release season, and all fish caught are to be released immediately, unharmed. Proper catch & release techniques are essential for released fish to survive. Doesn't say "no trout", it reads "no FISH". Figures... I am going to find that Ranger and have a talk with him.. He needs to know the rules if he is expected/paid to enforce them.. He was nice enough though... Where did you find those rules? Or do you have a book you are quoting from? cricket.c21.com
flyfishmaster Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 bobtu, Patfish is so right. Do not spend any money on a guide for a trout park. I'm sure one of us on the forum will be able to help you out. I don't even know the number of people my bother and I have helped out over the years at BSSP. Next time you go, post about two weeks ahead and ask if anyone else is going. See if they might have a ½ hour of time to help you out. One of the biggest factors of all at a trout park is "presentation". Making sure the fly is at the same level as the fish and drag free. Plus I'm big on the position the smaller the fly the better. later, FMM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
fishinwrench Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Where did you find those rules? Or do you have a book you are quoting from? There's this: http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/Documents/12001.pdf And this: http://www.missouritrout.com/weavers/winterseason.html

Snow Fly Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 If I'm not mistaken I think there are regulations which make guiding in the State Trout Parks illegal........... But it sure wouldn't be the first time I was wrong. My wife tells me this all the time................. "God gave fishermen expectancy, so they would never tire of throwing out a line"

I've never met a rude person on the stream. I've not only received a lot of tips, but have had the privelege of giving some as well. The guys at the fly shops will talk to you all day between customers and anyone walking near the stream with their fishing gear will stop long enough to let you know what is working and where. Don't get discouraged, it'll come to you...... "Life is like a beanstalk, isn't it." ~ John Geirach
patfish Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 bobtu, like FFM said, next time you're headed that way. Post a week or two in advance if you can. I'm always looking for an excuse to C&R at BSSP. Especially when I can say, "honey, I have to, its to help a kid". So, you'll have to bring your son to keep me from being a "liar".
Members jmerriman Posted November 29, 2008 Members Posted November 29, 2008 The wife and I fished some of the Park today. Fished near the campsites, never been there but very nice water. We did well initially and then nothing. We retreated to our normal area, as she says "smoother slower water", below the Holland Dam and we did nothing along with anyone else. Planning on returning tomorrow, Saturday November 29th, wind should be less and light front should be through. Anybody heading down? I need to try some of these "Furballs" John
