B. Babler White River Outfitters Guide Service

Gosh! If it was like this every day I'm sure I would almost know what Heaven was to be for me. Don and Mike from St. Louie told me that last years fishing extravaganva was good so the pressure was on. Thanks to the trout it was off fast. Drifting 264th oz. micro jigs in pink with crome heads from Andy Williams place to Fall Creek was out of site. I KNOW, I KNOW if you don't tie it you don't use it. As Phil will atest, nothing and I mean nothing will out produce this nymph on moving water. The micro is constructed with tungston, hen hackle and shrink wrapped and it is a monster. Used throughout the west it has surely found a home on the White River. Today many, many trout in the 12 to 19 inch range found it fasionable as foder and they kept on and kept on biting it. These folks wanted some fish to eat and it was all I could do to come up with a limit of fish under 12 inches. Not only were they biting the micro, but the 2 in. strike indicator that they were throwing on the 7ft. spinning rods were consumed almost as well. Man, what a day it would have been for a dry fly. No one on the river. Get Down Here.

I have to echo Bill's sentiments.

My buddy and I got down to taney after midnight on Thursday and fished til 3:30. Not another soul there (granted it was 22 degrees) :o Was very nice and had many hookups and caught a rainbow and a real nice brown throwing rapalas.

Then Fly fished on Friday wading in the vicinity of the #1 outlet mostly and down to rebar hole (which was under quite a bit of water all day). Started catching fish on scuds but then noticed that many of the rainbows were leaving eggs in the net so switched to a small orange egg pattern. Couldn't keep the fish off. Caught about 40 and they were all very nice fish - most in the 16 to 18 inch range. Actually bigger average fish than the last couple trips down there.

So like Bill said - it's at least a small glimpse of Heaven when it's like this. (and I'm not even a guide)

:) Bill is a great guide for those of you who do not know. I would highly reccomend a day with him as a great way to get to know taney.

Here are pics of 3 jigs. They are from my box and are little rough. But you get the idea.

WebFreeman- I apologize again for writing over your post. I'm still trying to get used to this whole forum thing.

No problem, Phil. They all work different.

Babler mention "shrink wrapping" the body. I'm not familiar w/ how to do that. Also, do the eyes make a difference?

I'll have to let Bill answer that... I know that there's only a couple of outfits that make these jigs.

Aren't those the old Merlin Olsen jigs that the trout parks used to sell in the little viles?

I've used those for a long time and they work great. Sports Authority in St. Louis sells something pretty similar.
