motoman Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Give us an update on the new rig, and the fishing T. But, hopefully you stay out well after sunset, beacause the fishing is so good?
Tom Spence Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 Well, heres all I can say about my first Champion boat...awesome! The boat ran great. I bundled up and put in at Cape Fair with a full tank and did my break in run to the 86 bridge on Long Creek and back to Cape. Fished from 12:30-4:30 in the longer creek arms between Cape and Aunts Creek. Only caught one short fish on the wiggle wart. Had a few slap at it but they wouldn't hook up. Didn't get touched on a blade. Caught 4 or 5 shorts and just one keeper on a brown and purple flash fb jig w/watermelon candy paca chunk. My bites were 25-30 feet on chunk rock 2ndary points. I was probably spending too much time on each point and should have been runnin and gunnin a bit more. Dropped a white war eagle spoon to fish I saw on the graph but no takers. Water temp in the afternoon was 54-55 in the creeks. Still a bit warm. Did catch two keeper (barely) spots in deep dock stalls on the spoon. They were suspended about 10 feet off the bottom in 30-35 ft. It was good to be back on the water. Hope to be back out there soon. Ham Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 You mention the water being "too warm". Was that too warm for a good spoon bite? I'm really wishing I could hold on to this 50-55 ' water for another month. Will the bass still eat a FB jig as the water cools below 50'? Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. I was on the main lake today and the Jig bite is really slowing down to only a few from last week of 3-4 limits. But that is the main lake creeks... Below 50 degrees jig that spoon right in the middle of the creek arms, or even maybe a stickbait.. Don Capt. Tom Spence Posted December 6, 2008 Author Posted December 6, 2008 Yeah Ham. When I say too warm I meant for the spoon bite. Like Don said, very soon you'll be able to get right in the middle of the creek arms and jig the spoon vertically. Sounds like fishing wasn't too shabby either? At least you didn't get skunked.
Ham Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 Thanks Don and T. I'm relatively new to the area and trying to get a general feel for when and where. God knows that the "rules" are meant to be broken, but a basic understanding of what "most" of the fish are doing at general water temperature ranges would be a huge help to me.
