Members jefly77 Posted December 21, 2008 Members Posted December 21, 2008 I fished from 7:00 to 11:00 on Sat, 12/20 and had the area below the dam all to myself. I figured only the die hard guys would be out with it getting so cold. I was the only one fishing. It was awesome. Fished the point by outlet 1 as the water was rising and killed them for about an hour. Caught about 20 in that time frame, half browns and half rainbows. Largest fish were a rainbow that went about 19" and a brown of about the same size. I was throwing big rapalas and working them slowly against the current. The water came up and they turned off for about an hour. As the water came back down a little I caught a few more and then it started getting too cold for my hands. The ice forming on my rod eyelets really got annoying, but it was so nice to have it all to myself for a while.
duckydoty Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Glad you had a good time. I love it when I can catch the whoe place to myself. That does not happen very often and usually has to be some pretty bad weather conditions. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
laker67 Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Jefly77, Good report. The last time I can recall being the only one out there, was the night they ran the 5 flood gates in "04". Like DD said, it's a rare occassion when you can find the parking lot empty. Glad you caught some quality fish. I remember talking to you one night at outlet 2. It was about 3 am, and I think that you and I were the only ones left. You had caught several fish around the cable and #1 that evening.
vanven Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I have seen a few nights like this where I was the only car in the parking lot even in the middle of summer. Those are the nights where something rustling on the opposite shore really gets my attention. -Jerod
duckydoty Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Yep, that is usually when the giant man eating squid comes out to play. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners

I'm still not sure. He was on the opposite side of #1 from me, and was thrashing around in the water attempting to catch a fish. I stood my ground, because I had no good escape route. Luckily he left after a short time.
Members jefly77 Posted December 23, 2008 Author Members Posted December 23, 2008 Thanks laker. I remember you. Since moving to the area back in July I have noticed that I usually see the same few cars at night. I've gotten to the point where I almost prefer fishing Taney at night.

If it smelled really bad it was Leonard.
