I had a bit of time today and took inventory of my fly boxes and came to the conclusion that I carry too many. As a matter of fact there are patterns in them that have never been productive, flys of my own design that don't work, bugs that are ragged, worn and non identifiable, and a jumble of other assorted that are never fished. I think it's time to clean them out and just stock up on the things that consistently catch fish. What's in your Taney, White River and Trout Park fly boxes? Don't you think that one could have an assortment of only 10 flies and cover the entire spectrum....Dano

I've been doing the same thing lately, Dano.

Here's my list from the top of the water to the bottom:

Terrestrials (foam hoppers, crickets, etc.)

Griffith's Gnats

Cracklebacks (3 different colors)

Soft Hackles #14 - 18 (5 different colors)

Zebra Midges - #16 - 18 (same colors as the soft hackles)

Glo Balls (3 different colors)

San Juan Worms (mainly red and worm brown)

Woolly Buggers

Pine squirrel streamers

And that's it!

Ham, excellent point. I do carry trout crack. I guess I was categorizing it in the scud / sow section. But it sure is a productive fly on the tailwaters.

Here is my flybox for the beaver tailwater :ninja:

Man, now that is organization. I wish I could minimize like that.

One thing I have been toying with is getting me one of those large plano boxes and using it for just an inventory box., then only carry say 6 of each pattern. When my fly boxes get low, then just replenishing from the big box.

thats what exactly what i do to a certain extent. i like to travel as light as possible. i have a handful of these slim boxes that i use for certain locations. I keep the majority of my flys in a soft FLW tackle bag with the rectangle plastic boxes inside.

No Dry Flies? Does any on here fish with dry flies any more?

I do that myself. I keep two of them in the bag that stays in the car. One for wet and one for dry flies.
