jay bird Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 What type and brand of scales does everyone use to weigh their fish. I will probably have to have the scale go up to at least 50#s. Optimistic thinking for my Striper fishing. Have got the cheap ones in years past and they always seem to break or our not very accurate. The question that I have it that if I get one that goes up to 50#s will it be less accurate for Bass size fish under 10#s?
motroutbum Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I'd get a boga. they are a little more pricy, but come in 30 and 60 lb limits. Plus they are really easy to use. There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!
Members whiteriverinnmoose Posted January 8, 2009 Members Posted January 8, 2009 I dont use a scale when I am fishing by myself . I just say how big I want my fish to be 4 or 5 times . Then I start believin it , so its not really a lie when I tell somebody about it . It is unbelievable how many huge fish you can catch by employing this method .Most importantly it is incredibly accurate up to any weight or length . Tight Lines, Moose

duckydoty Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 If you need to weigh the fish I would use a combination of the boga and a net. Weigh the fish and the net while it is in the net to keep from harming it. The boga is getting alot of bad publicity about possibly harming the fish. ness Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I just eye-ball them. I've been quite happy with the results. John
Members whiteriverinnmoose Posted January 11, 2009 Members Posted January 11, 2009 Eyeballing fish is an ineffective way to hold fish. It has been proven to blind fish ,and one Northern pike told me it hurt like heck .It is better to lip the fish or hold it under the belly and lift ever so gently .No one wants to catch a blind trout .It is hard enough for them to find a size 20 midge in murkey water . Moose PS: Gotcha ! didn't I ! ha ha
rps Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Fish are like football. Huh? You approximate for three fish and then measure to within .001 of an inch. I have had a golden rule bolted in the boat since I bought it. I have a new Boga I asked for Christmas to save my fingers from hooks. I will assume the weight part is accurate. Of course the really large fish weigh what I say they weigh.
