Danoinark Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Lots of word of mouth intell coming in and done of it is great. I'll be doing a lot of chain saw work next week. Lady at work has a tree across her rent house. Lots of areas in Marion county w/o power. Limbs breaking off trees pretty much everywhere. I'll be spending another night at work. Ham My daughter is a nurse at NARMC....she says the census is down fortunately since some workers could not get in. Are they full at BRMC? catman Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I finally got in my truck just now, must have had 3/4" of ice around the doors and around an 1" on the hood & top. No choice but to start out with hot boiling water to even get to the handles. I figured I might as well get some off before the next 1" of ice from this afternoon & tonight would have added to the mess. I was born at night, but not last night. Odds are with the prepared...
Ham Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 We aren't full, but our numbers are not down that much. We have had a few broken hips come in that I think were falls on the ice. We have a few pneumonias coming in as well. Most surgeries have been postponed. Good staff here. Many have roomed over to make sure that the hospital had the staff it needs. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 27, 2009 Root Admin Posted January 27, 2009 Our dock is not in good shape. We usually climb on top of it and shovel snow off it when it's this bad but I just tried and it's mostly ice, not much to shovel off. Some of the fingers are under water. Not sure how much more before it collapses or turns over. Never seen it this bad. No trees or branches down. Very fortunate. Phone is ringing off the wall with reservations... I guess everyone's thinking about warmer times while shut in the house... making plans.
Danoinark Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Lost a big cedar in the front of the house...no great loss, but I like to take them down on my terms. There is a tree down across the road from the house blocking my road. I don't have a big chainsaw so I called the County. In the meantime a 4wd pick up tried to go around it, right on my front property and caused big ruts, got stuck and backed out. Its a good thing I didn't get out to him before he got away. Zack Hoyt Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Dano,.......you reminded me to call my parents and check on them. They are out towards Bellefonte. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
Danoinark Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Dano,.......you reminded me to call my parents and check on them. They are out towards Bellefonte. Zach, its pretty bad but not like Jan 2000...yet. I am sure you remember that one. Hope your folks are all snug as a bug with plenty of power. jdmidwest Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 We have about 3 inches of sleet, glazed with freezing rain, froze hard, and another 2 inches of fresh sleet and still coming down. I tried to get out with the Explorer, made it to the end of the Subdivision and found main road still covered and untouched. Office called, we are off tomorrow too. Hope your folks are all snug as a bug with plenty of power. Dano They are good. Bellefonte has been out of power since early this morning. Dad said he goes every once in a while to listen to the branches breaking......said it looks like a war zone. They had a bunch of very large oaks....so cleanup this next weekend is probably eminent. I remember the 2000 storm. I got out with some buddies and did ALOT of clearing and cutting at the elderly people houses near downtown. Looks like I may make a trip over there next weekend to help cleanup. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 28, 2009 Root Admin Posted January 28, 2009 Just checked the radar and the ice is still showing over and around us. Still no trees down. Power is good. We went out and got as much ice off the front edge of our dock as possible- it helped.
