dwiebenga Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I am going to purchase a few baits this season, but I am on a limited budget. What version of the crankbait is the most universal? Also what colors?
Ham Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 If you're looking for crankbaits for Table Rock, I'd get Wiggle Warts first. There are Lucky Craft baits I like a lot, but the only LC Cranks I have gotten have been the Rick Clunn Wake and RC Shallow Runner. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. rps Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Gavin- I confess I am too cheap to fish LC. However, one of the mailorder places I patronize has the colors you seek. Tacklewarehouse. Hope the link below works: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpageHDRLUCKY-LCPT.html# good luck dweibenga- for less dollars than LC look at: the Xcalibur jerk and twitch baits in ghost, chart. shad. TR shad, and clown; no one makes a better crank bait than wiggle warts original series V37 and V38; put quality hooks on clear, silver, and white spooks, tie a feather to the tail, add red nail polish to the gill line; Norman DD22's will cover water deeper than the warts can hit - shad colors and firetiger
Nitroman Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I am going to purchase a few baits this season, but I am on a limited budget. What version of the crankbait is the most universal? Also what colors? The only Lucky Craft bait I use is their Pointer ( JERK BAIT ) so I am not a good source of information on their standard type crankbait. What crankbaits I do use & recommend to our guests on a regular basis are: BOMBER Fat Free Shad, models BD5F, BD6F, BD7F. STRIKE KING Pro Model, models Series 5, & Series 6 also STRIKE KING Tour Grade, model Series 5. NORMAN LURES, models Deep Little N, Deep Diver 14, Deep Diver 22. BANDIT, 300 Series, 400 Series, 700 Series. RAPALA Shad Rap, model SR07, SR08, SR09. REBEL Crawfish, size 3/8oz. & 7/16 oz. STORM Wiggle Wart, model V ( 2in. 3/8 oz. ) REBEL & STORM: " NATURAL CRAWDAD COLORS ONLY " All others: Shad, Bluegill, Sunfish patterns. If you are on a limited budget none of the above are going to " BREAK THE BANK " !!!!!!! You should be able to purchase at least 2 & sometimes 3 of the above brands & models for the price of 1 Lucky Craft. This should give you a starting point & I hope it's in some way helpfull. Of course time of year, water temperature & current weather conditions all factor into which ones to tie on & throw at them. Rock View Resort Table Rock Lake Greg Pope, Owner/Operator & Fishing Guide

dwiebenga Posted January 28, 2009 Author Posted January 28, 2009 All the info is great, but I am interested in just a few Lucky Craft---the RC models. Which one is the best for the money? 1.5, 2.5, or 3.5?
focused fishing Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I throw both the 1.5 & 2.5 a bunch summer through fall, haven't used the 3.5 much though I own a couple. I talked with Clunn (dang I feel like a freaking name dropper) shortly after they came out and he explained it this way: If you can see the cover, shallow brush or lay downs, throw the 1.5, if it is a little deeper cover down to around 3' throw the 2.5, for cover up to 4' deep throw the 3.5. The bait is designed to be thrown beyond the cover and worked through it, I'm always amazed how easily they come through cover. I think the 3.5 would be more effective on dirtier water like Truman where you need the extra bulk, of course there would need to be some fish in Truman to prove that theory..... As far as colors are concern the best two I've found are; copper green, works well in clear to stained water and chartreuse perch for stained to dirty water. I noticed they came out with a sexy chartreuse shad that I'm going to have to buy ..... dang it. Those are really the best two colors, I own several others but have the most success with those two. Haven't tried any of the deep divers yet but might this spring, looking for something that runs like a wart that I can throw further into the wind. If you primarily fish Table Rock the Copper Green in both 1.5 & 2.5 should work best. Hope this helped. Ham Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I have been amazed at how well the Wake 1.5 comes through brush. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
wily Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 i've got a 2.5 in american shad -- or whatever color the rainbow looking one is -- that i use at grand. i like it - i've thought about buying other colors/size but they're too expensive for me to have a variety. if i lost the one i have -- i'd buy another just like it to replace it.
Whack'emGood Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Does "Lucky Craft" and "on a budget" belong in the same sentence? "Success builds confidence, and you have to learn to trust your instincts and forget about fishing the way a tournament is supposed to be won. I'm going to fish my style and make it work for me." -KEVIN VANDAM "Confidence is the best lure in your tackle box." -GERALD SWINDLE "A-Rig? Thanks, but no thanks. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
