Quillback Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I agree with you Brownieman, the whole tournament thing is getting carried away, I'm not knocking those that participate, but it's all starting to get a little overdone. And that thing with parking the boat with a Merc motor on it at the convention center, I guess they must be afraid that Merc is a better motor so they wanted it out of there.
Whack'emGood Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I know probably few of you agree with me I just don't feel this is what fishing is meant to be...as a matter of fact I don't think there are even pro's...you're either a good fisherman or not...I guess any good fisherman has the right to call him or herself a 'Pro' or does it have to be a rich mans deal ?? I have caught alot of big trout...does that make me a professional trout fisherman?... thought I was just a simple country boy, emphasis on simple, lol My worthless 2 cents worth..... I agree with you that they spoof some of these bigger tourneys (namely FLW) up way too much. Why all the production? I also agree that they don't act very professional... but the definition of a Pro is someone who makes a living at something... it makes them a professional at whatever they do. Again though... alot of these "Professionals" don't act very professional, do they? Whack'em "Success builds confidence, and you have to learn to trust your instincts and forget about fishing the way a tournament is supposed to be won. I'm going to fish my style and make it work for me." -KEVIN VANDAM "Confidence is the best lure in your tackle box." -GERALD SWINDLE "A-Rig? Thanks, but no thanks. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 16, 2009 Root Admin Posted March 16, 2009 Where did the little Japanese fellow go that went into an area that was posted no outboard motors? He was disqualified over it. Seriously? There's an area posted on TR- no outboard motors?? Or am I missing something.
Members skeeterp Posted March 16, 2009 Members Posted March 16, 2009 Wow, I can't believe how hard this site is on the FLW boys. Same thing got started after the event in November. Bottom line is for the most part, the big majority of the guys fishing the FLW have an awesome apportunity in front of them that many of us would like to have and they are humble and just good ol' boys. The guys that get up and talk about the ones they caught in practice and the ones that got away...BIG DEAL. They are up there, this is their stage, they say what they are thinking, its not different than any of us doing it we are just not up on that stage. There are definitely the premadonas, but they are on the Elite too and they get up and make the same excuses. I did hear plenty of guys on camera say, "i just couldnt figure them out". Anyways, NitroNick and I did fish the Heartland Buddy and only had 2 fish, both 3lbrs but didnt weigh them. We did see the camera boat for Anthony Gagliardi spin his boat out going around the shallow hazard point across from point 17. When he spun the boat, it ejected the driver. Nick and I were the first ones over there. Gagliardi figured out that his camera boat wasnt with him and turned around and came back and retrieved the boat while Nick and I pulled Larry into our boat. Water temp was 48, he was a little disoriented and had no strength, it was tough hauling him into my boat. He was ok though. The guy was probably around 60 years old and pretty good size boy. He said he was ok, but I'm sure he was hurting on Sunday. I had never seen anything like that before, Nick and I were a little jacked up for awhile after the dust settled. We'll be back over for the AIA in a couple of weeks..... SkeeterP
Members KCNitro Posted March 16, 2009 Members Posted March 16, 2009 Seriously? There's an area posted on TR- no outboard motors?? Or am I missing something. I saw him all weekend up in the James. I remember seeing the wildlife area on the gps, i think its a little bit past Wooley creek. He out ran his camera boat on Sunday as well. He blew past then we saw him a few minutes later when he came back to find the camera boat. I guess they can't fish without the camera boat.... Does anyone know why they had an observer boat following them on Saturday? It was kind of funny seeing these wrapped boats just follow the guys around, there wasn't a camera man in any of the boats I saw.

SkeeterP I guess that would be the 'Bassamania Stage', lol...sorry, couldn't resist. My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
techo Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Hey can't wait to see you there SkeeterP. Meet you for coffee again? Nice of you guys to help and for the Pro to give a hand and glad he wasn't injured. See ya March 28. Tim Carpenter

If that is indeed the reason that does not speak well for the 'Pro's. My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
Tom Spence Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 The more I read of you all's comments the more rediculous it all sounds. JMO but all this bass hype is just big boys and their toys, ya know...just all seems to be about the almighty dollar as are too many things anymore. I watch a little fishing on tv but can't stand to watch the tourney stuff or lmb fishing period...nothing against it just don't understand the attractant except for money. I don't want advertising all over my equipment even if they pay for it all. Big fancy boats, trucks, equipment racing from hole to hole at breakneck speed, whatever...sorry just don't turn me on. If they are truely pros they would not treat the fish in the manner they do ...bags, tubs with fish flopping around...holding decent fish up and darn near dislocating their jaws, uh uh. I know probably few of you agree with me I just don't feel this is what fishing is meant to be...as a matter of fact I don't think there are even pro's...you're either a good fisherman or not...I guess any good fisherman has the right to call him or herself a 'Pro' or does it have to be a rich mans deal ?? I have caught alot of big trout...does that make me a professional trout fisherman?... thought I was just a simple country boy, emphasis on simple, lol My worthless 2 cents worth..... I get the impression you dont like tourneys or the guys who fish them. The vast majority are great people, just like the rest of the fishing community. I love to fish... period. Like to go with my dad, my kids, my wife, my friends. But I like to fish tourneys too because they add another element. That being time constraints, competition, not being able to choose the weather you fish in etc. The majority of the tournament fishermen are "just simple country boys" too. They just have a diferent way of enjoying their sport. Tom Spence Champion Boats http://championboats.com Luck E Strike USA http://martyconradfishing.com
brownieman Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I have nothing against the ones that fish the tourneys unless they have a mountain of an ego...to each their own, But you're right, I don't care much for the hype of the tourneys but it really matters not to me...no skin off my back, lol. I mainly river fish so they don't bother me in the least...there's good and bad aspects of most things, just the way it is. My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
