et84 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Does anyone fish topwater frogs? I have never fished them before and was wondering which ones worked the best in lakes/rivers around Springfield. Another thing I have never fished is a jig-n-pig. I have fished jigs with plastic craw/grub trailers, but I wanted to try pork. How do you rig the pork on the jig hook? Thanks! crazy4fishin Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 ET84 - I have fished frogs before. Not necessarily around Springfield. There are many type but I prefer SPRO brand. I have a few colors depending on teh time of the year. I mainly fish them around vegetation pitching them to the shore line then erratically retrieving them. That seems to trigger a great reaction bite. As far as the jig-n-pig Uncle Josh makes a good "pig" and all I do is hook it through the flat part of the jig....not threading it through the body. If you would like more information I would recommend that you go to the BASS website and do a search. Good luck Crazy4fishinA Cornhusker
Ham Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Before moving up here, I tried a lot of the frogs on the market. For me, I'll fish Spro Bronze eye frogs > 90% of the time and Snag Proof Bobby's Perfect frog the rest of the time. I will only fish them on braid (50-65 lb). I love a frog bite, but watch what you're doing because snakes, owls, herons, and (where present) gators will attack them as well. I need to try the Bronze eye Jr's on the creeks come mid summer.
