In recent years fly fishing for carp has started to become more and more mainstream. There are many a web site dedicated to carp/warmwater/and urban fishing. In LA, the LA river has become known amongst some fishermen for plentiful carp which can be caught there. Id be willing to bet that the Des peres river in ST.Louis is as good or better than the LA river for carp. I have seen the carp in one river des peres tributary stream and that stream is on my target list...however I have the suspicion that sighting fish and casting to them would be much easier in the River Des Peres itself. Has anyone out there seen carp in the river des peres,

(location)? I know i should just go down there and look around, but it would be nice to hear how the carp are all stacked up in there before i go.

regardless. I intend to fish this water...and i will keep anyone interested posted.

Im also interested to hear if anyone has ever seen carp in forest park, and to what degree? probably another prime carp spot.

There are soe spots that hold water, however im not sure if you are supposed/allowed to fish in it. Because technically isnt it part of MSD? if not, i'd be game for checking it out, the goal this summer has been catch some carp on a fly rod

The parts I see most often (in South County and in the city by McClausland and Arsenol) rarely hold much water except when it rains. Even so, I can't imagine anything surviving there nor would I want to be close to that water. It doesn't smell too good. That would be pretty cool if there were fish there though.

its been a while since i saw this post... and i can only add so much to this gem.

lots of this "river" dries up, but there is always some water in the lower sections. as for legality? who realy cares. imo. at least thats what im saying now! lol

despite my desire to fish the RDP i only managed a drive by scout mission in between some work i was doing out that way. and yes! large rippled disturbances coming from large fish!!!!

Im not 100% on whats the most discreet way to access but I know it can be done! Ill go a step further... I will Fish the RDP in 2010! my first and only newyears resolution .

you may have thought this thread died but it has not my friends.

I agree with most, it is dry except when the Mississippi is up and backs up into the canal created for the river. When I was young, it was call River De P_ee_uu for the Monsanto plant and the sewage smell as you crossed it. I have never thought about fishing it. But if the river is up, I am sure carp and other fish run up into it. I don't think there would be any laws against fishing from its banks, but the city may have some.

Sick. I grew up on Germania, with RDP as my backyard, and have no affection for it. Though it was fun watching waterskiers in the backyard in '93 :P

However I have been interested in the carp fishing down there, especially down towards the Mississippi. I bet things get interesting in the spring, with a couple warm rains and fish spawning...

I'll have to see.
