My wife and I both got out of the army recently and started our family here where I was born and raised. But ive never been to the lake during the summer to fish. Now its all I want to do and I dont want a million partiers to spoil the fishing! Is it worth going to fish this weekend or will all the yea whos with skis and seadoos take over? I was there Thurs and it was really laid back and we caught some good fish but i have been warned to stay away during the Memorial Day weekend. I know all the campsites around the lake are reserved, so people are moving in, but would i be the only one fishing? I just wanted the opinion of some guys who know the lake all seasons. Will anyone else do battle this weekend or will people that regularly fish stockton just lay low until this passes or will every weekend from now on in be a warzone? Im not scared...Im gonna try anyway...but we were going to try to head up late afternoon and stick around till midnight and avoid the crowds. Just wondering what other people were planning this weekend. thanks alot guys!

I live on the lake (TR) and theoretically can be picky about when I fish or don't. With that in mind, I plan to fish this weekend. However, I will not fish long periods. I will be out before sunrise and quit well before noon. I find most of the party crowd are later risers. I don't know if it is life style or hangovers, but not many of the boat wake crowd are on the water early.

Fish early or late is good advice. Another option is put in or run up the rivers to get away from most of the crowds. I have seen some skiers, jet skis up there but not like the main lake. I am fishing Taney and TR this weekend hopefully the fish are biting, heck with the tourist.

It is not worth the pain to go fishing on Stockton on holiday weekends. It is dangerous, and the ski boats and jet skiers go to the coves to get out of the wind or get out of the chop on the lake. This makes these areas impossible to fish.

I think the Missouri Department of Conservation should do like many other agencies throughout the United States and section off certain areas for fishing only. Stockton is not as bad as the killing fields of Lake of the Ozarks, but it is bad enough that I spend those days with the Bill Dance fishing show.

Remember the guy who backed his trailer in the water and left the trailer and the vehcile on the ramp as he and his buddy motored off into oblivion? Picture this on Memorial Day weekend.

One other thing you could do, however, to excite your weekend: take a lawn chair and a jug of sweet tea and sit in an obscure place in the shade near a boat ramp and observe these unending spectacles first hand. Watching boat ramp antics is some of the best free entertainment you can get.

This advise can be dangerous. I still have nightmares from the 300# plus woman I seen at Masters in a string bikini...... here come the flashbacks again no weekends at Stockton for me.

If you want to fish seriously, I would fish in the river above or below stockton. I don't know the lake, but generally you find a lot less partiers and such on the rivers, and the fishing will probably be better, at least this weekend.

You won't get as much free entertainment though B)

If you have other weekends off, skip this one. I sure am.

This just came to me. Fish after dark if you're gonna stay till midnight. Not many think of this, so it should solve all you problems.
