Members LarryC Posted July 10, 2009 Members Posted July 10, 2009 Hybrid on the right with the fat belly and broken stripes. Striper on the left. I think sometimes the hybrids are a bit meaner than the stripers. After Beaver flood gates were opened last year AG&F was rounding up the stripers and hybrids the next day in the tailwater. They can consume a massive number of those nearly tame trout stocked below Beaver, so they are not much welcomed. Making Beaver Lake safe for all the little fish...one striper at a time.
denjac Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 You know, the hybrids or stripers would be a fun thing, HOWEVER, something that I have been talking about lately is the fact that Table Rock is far and away the best lake on the White River chain, and just happens to be the one with close to zero stripers. Do you think this is coincidence? Please explain, best lake? Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. ozarkgunner Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Please explain, best lake? I have been told the stripers don't impact the bass fishing. MDC had something on this a few years ago. Angler At Law

I would have to disagree heartily on that one, but everyone is entitled to their opinion :-) - Not to hijack your thread, but I'm dying to know........ What do you think is the best on the white river chain Sam (and anyone else)? - I've only fished the Rock, so I can't say. But, I'll be hitting Bull Shoals in a few weeks.
skeeter Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Around ten days-two weeks ago, a neighbor and his Wife caught two coolers full of Whites/Wipers (?) in the Baxter area while jigging spoons in the early morning. He showed me the broken lines on them and thought sure they were Wipers. I had to agree as everything I've read says Whites have unbroken lines on their sides. They were big enough that I suggested he be aware of the MDC regulation that limits an angler to four fish over 18 inches. If they were Wipers they cannot reproduce due to Wipers being sterile Mules.
rangerman Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 a BIG Striper is an absolute glutton. He will eat anything he can get in his mouth. Buddy of mine and I had an absolute monster, I believe and honest 40 to 50 pounds come up and grab a 14 or so inch kentucky he was fighting. Just inhaled it, he fed it line for a little bit but couldn't get a hook into it. This was up in the White River Arm. Stripers and hybrids are pretty cool fish though.

They must have been on the smaller side. 3 pounds plus wipers will test most tackle. Gotta have alot of line capacity to get the bigger ones in. They will strip most reels dry. Been there done that.
