Al Agnew Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I have a William Joseph shoulder bag that I got reasonable from Sierra Trading Post (retail on William Joseph stuff is higher than a cat's back). I wanted a shoulder bag that I could have ride high on my shoulder when I have to wade deep, but that I could rotate to my chest to get into. The William Joseph does look a bit like a man purse, but it holds a LOT of stuff. The thing is huge. It isn't quite perfect, but pretty good. I tried it for flyfishing, but didn't like it for that because it doesn't have but one big compartment with a single divider, and with all the little items you have to carry flyfishing, like fly floatant and split shot and tippet spools and strike indicators, the stuff the little pockets on fly vests are made for, it was like digging into a toy chest to find what you needed. But it works really well for wade-fishing for smallies, since I carry a couple of Plano boxes full of stuff, and a bottle of water, and that's about it. Before that, I always used fanny packs that I slung over my shoulder instead of around my waist. A big fanny pack might still be the ticket, worn that way.
ness Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 You sound like a perfect candidate for my new product called Fishing Caddy. For just $20 a day, I'll send one of my 13-year old boys out with you to lug all your crap. If $20 is not enough, I could maybe pay as high as $30. John
fishinwrench Posted July 18, 2009 Author Posted July 18, 2009 Ness, I had a really good male Lab that was great for that too. He was way cheaper to feed than a 13 y/o boy and minded really well when I needed to re-rig, but the downside was one particular trip when he decided to wander off on his own during a portage to roll in a dead Gar while my gear bag was strapped to him. And then another time he got carried away trying to snap a horsefly and got 3 points of a F-9 Rapala imbedded in his jowls.
Members mark hedger Posted July 18, 2009 Members Posted July 18, 2009 I started with a big Cabelas fanny pack that I loaded to the gills. It got so uncomfortable that I started slinging it over my shoulder. I soon grew weary of that situation and tried, in vain, to minimalize in a small Columbia fanny pack. I recently purchased the Plano fanny pack. So far, so good. It is the right size for me.
Members LB&M Posted July 25, 2009 Members Posted July 25, 2009 I have a small shoulder bag that I use for all sorts of hunting and fishing. You can throw fly boxes in, plano plastic boxs for lures, water, maps, thermos, rangefinder, binoculars -- you name it. It's about the size of a small fabric briefcase and is light (unless you really load it down) I carry it in my kayak for fishing and it's easy to just throw over your shoulder when you get out to wade. It's actually lighter (most of the time) than an old Woods River Fly Bag I have. I got mine at Sportsmans Warehouse a couple of years ago. It looks very much like this from Cabelas. Probably the same bag. I paid about $25 for mine. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...rset=ISO-8859-1 Ike - Shooting Starr's Commander
