This may violate the spirit of this thread, but one of the requirements of our trips up there (besides worshipping at Grizzly Tools) is a visit to Hemingway's at the Bass Pro Shop. Then we go ogle the boats we'll never buy.

Ribtips - I have to agree with you. On our yearly treck south we always stop at the Queen Mother of all sporting stores and feast at Hemingways. Mostly we hit the breakfast buffet and then do the store tour making sure that I have purchased everything that I need for the $50 that the wife gives me :P

They wont let me in the boat area anymore - it was too hard for them to keep the boats clean since I was drooling on them all the time.

OK. BPS in Springfield IS Mecca. Always visit. Always spend money. Since Okiebug died, it's the only place I know that is worth the time. If Johnny would only stop trying to make money off the cheapest stuff and sell only the good stuff. But that is another story.

Food. Have I made it clear I am a foodie? I spent 10 months at Cordon Bleu in London. I have eaten at some of the finest places in the world. Gordon Ramsey's places in London are not even in my top ten. Jamie Oliver comes closer, but he doesn't make it either. So what have I learned?

Eat local. Find someone who is a real person who cares about fresh and quality and eat there. Tell others how good it is so they stay in business. Yes, Macaroni Grill is good, especially compared to Olive Garden. Can they touch Ermillo's in Eureka Springs? Simple no.

If that is the definition, which of the places you have written about are worth the visit? I would like to find an excellent fine dining place in the Branson area. Talk to me.

BTW - Many years ago, the wife and I took a very young daughter to a restaurant in downton Branson. It wasn't Candlewood or Candlestick. That was across the lake on a hill. This place was in the old town and I think it may have had a Greek name. They had fresh oysters and crepe suzettes. What happened to them?

Wasn't that place out on the lake? If it was I think it was, they tore it down when they made Branson Landing.

Zander, you are on track. The new Branson landing development is all over where that place once was. Emily, the then very young daughter, ate her first oyster there. She is now thirty, soon to be thirty one.

I think you are right about the name. Emily was just three the first time we were there and she was seven and Abby three the last time. Good memories from those trips. Modern Branson appears very successful, but I am afraid it has begun to look like every other tourist place. Two years ago I drove through Gatlinburg. The only differences were the pictures of used to be famous stars on the theaters.

On the other hand, it seems the people want what they want and there is nothing wrong with making money from that.

RPS You are thinking of Dimitri's. Very good!! Did they have a fire before the Landing went in and never rebuilt? My father introduced me to Dimitri's went back several times after.

Snagged I agree with your statement about Candlestick. The wife and I have eaten there a few times, and the food and service were good, just seems overpriced to me.

FYI Ate at Rock's last trip down on Friday night and had the prime rib, excellent! I think they serve prime rib both Friday and Saturday nights.

Demitri's??? I ate at Candlestick Saturday night when I was there. I thought it was good, but very overpriced. The atmosphere and view are unbeatable though.

Demitir's mysteriously burned down under somewhat shady circumstances. I guess the insurance finally paid as they rebuilt the floating restraunt which eventually became???...........................Bass Pro Shop's White River Fish Company.

The best food in the area? Papouli's in Reed Spring. IMO as all the food is made from scratch. If you want to spend an arm and two legs Outback Steak House (not the chain) is good, but too high IMO. There is suppose to be a dining place in a hotel that has a very highly regarded prime rib sandwhich and I forget the name (seems like he is a retired baseball pro named Jack) Can someone help me?
