Kind of a last minute deal here but I'll ask anyways...

Me and a buddy are headed up there tommorow (thursday), we were gonna try for tuesday but ended up settling on thursday. Anyways, How is the water looking? I don't know if the rain we got down in Springfield effected things up there or not... Also, what has been workin' as far as flies go?

Thanks.

Zach,

I'm glad to hear that you are getting out. I gave a report on nolucks topic "7-18th and 19th" on bssp. If you fish the wing dikes, fish deep and dark. The same sowbugs and scuds that you use at Taney will work good in size 14 and 16. You will see from my report that I spent most of the day chasing some big fish, but I had little fish taking and spitting out the dark sowbugs all day long. Something on the order of a dark hares ear. I had several smaller fish take a 41 tan earlier in the day. Give us a report and let us know how you do. Take care Zach.

Zach,

Check here for the latest water level at Bennett. Bennett Spring Level. The rain hasn't budged the level at all so far. Low, nearly clear and perfect. I was there as well last Sunday. I'm quite the rooky, but did well just up from the dam on a #14 cream bodied peacock thorax soft hackle fished solo and with a split shot under an indicator.

Good luck,

Troy

Thanks for the replies guys,

Laker- I was really hoping for some terrestrial action, I just "mastered" tying a new hopper pattern... Oh well, I guess I'm just gonna have to test the new scud pattern I came up with. :D

You see, before I got back to working again, I had all kinds of time to come up with some new patterns. We'll see how it does, and I may just have to post a recipe...

You for sure need to try out those new patterns, especially the hopper. Since I never fish on top, I never think to suggest patterns such as the hopper. It is the right time of year for sure. I hope you and your buddy get into some good fish.

I was down last Friday on a terrestrial binge. Hoppers couldn't get a sniff for me, nor the Beetle, but I did pretty good on this Ant pattern....

FW,

What's the white on top? Is it white foam or just paint?

The other week down at Taney, Japanese Beetles were everywhere and the fish would bite on a foam body beetle. I would think they are hitting the same at Bennett?

The only good line is a tight line

Dave,

I glue a sheet of white razor foam (the real thin stuff) onto a sheet of black craft foam with 3M spray adhesive.

Then cut into 3/32" strips with a razor. The white makes it easier to see on the water.

You have to put a drop of Zap-A-Gap on the hook right before tying the body on so it doesn't roll around the hook.

Then I tie in 3 strands of black deer hair on each side for legs.
