oneshot Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Can you use your Vehical to recharge your Deep Cycle Battery on a regular basis or is it too hard on Alternator,Battery or Both? oneshot
fishinwrench Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I don't think it would be cost effective fuel wise at 6 amps, and your auto alternator is not going to charge it to full capacity, since the voltage regulator in most auto's diverts the remaining charge to ground once 12.3-12.6 volts are indictated. A good group 27 battery needs to go 14+ volts during a charge cycle.
Dutch Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 There is a unit called Stay in Charge that can allow your car to recharge your battery while on the road. http://www.stayncharge.com/products.htm
Wayne SW/MO Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 If you're not in a hurry, a little cheap charger is probably the best. Slower chargers will give you a longer life. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members BobK Posted September 28, 2009 Members Posted September 28, 2009 I agree....you would be better off buying an inexpensive battery charger. You ain't a live'n if your not a fish'n
OzarkFishman Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Wayne SW/MO, I have a charger that has a 2, 10 and 15 AMP setting (Schumacher Portable). Are you saying that setting it at 2 Amps will yeild a longer battery life? Since I go fishing at most once a week in my boat, I can use the slower charge rate if it will add to my battery life. Any money saving tips are awesome. OzarkFishman
