Okay boys, let's hear it.

I've always just used the plastic junk paddles in the past, but since I'm in new canoe mode right now, I guess I'll invest in a quality wood paddle. I've heard some brands thrown around, probably most often Bending Branches.

What do you guys like for brands, sizes and styles?

This paddle will be for an OT Guide 119. Not really worried about hauling butt through slack-water or paddling upstream. Just looking for a versatile all-arounder good for manuevering and correction strokes.

Thanks all.

I have a wood laminate 60 OT with a 7 3/8" blade that I love just as much as my favorite fishing rods. I've had to do a little epoxy touch-ups here and there, and I have this feeling that if it ever blows up I'll never find another that feels the same.

Does anyone know (Al ?) if Old Town actually makes their own paddles ?

I can't help you, I use a double in my solo. I've tried a single when I'm fishing, but it just doesn't work for me.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I like the double when paddling through slack-water or going upstream, but for manuevering in tight spots and the million correction strokes you make in a day, I prefer a single. Picking up and laying down the double gets a little cumbersome for me because of its length.

I carry a little 2-3' paddle for correction, it can be used with one hand. I lay the double across the gunnels above my lap and it doesn't really bother me. Using the short single avoids laying the rod down for me.

Here's a link to a pic of my favorite...

I've had it for 4-5 years so far and its holding up really well. Bending branches makes a good paddle and you can pick em up at REI or Alpine Shop...but they dont offer a nice paddle with a T handle, and I like a T handle cuz its good for grabbing onto stuff. You will have to buy online to get a Mitchell though..They dont have a local dealer. Cheers.
