Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 10, 2009 Root Admin Posted October 10, 2009 All 10 gates. They are running 125 mw and are scheduled to all day today. That means they are NOT running 4 full units (220 mw) but little over half - probably to save injecting so much O2. It's costly AND when they run out, that would mean no O2 would be added.
Luke Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 I'm hoping the O2 doesn't drop too much. This is the time of year that I watch this graph a lot anyway, but in circumstances like these it becomes even more interesting. --Luke
snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Any pics???? For us guys that aren't in the area. SIO3
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 If the gates are open pulling water from the surface, would the O2 drop that much? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
laker67 Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 I'm hoping the O2 doesn't drop too much. This is the time of year that I watch this graph a lot anyway, but in circumstances like these it becomes even more interesting. What is really interesting is the temp graph, almost 60 degrees. Where is that measured at? If that temp goes upward in the next few days we could be looking at another aborted spawn as in last year. The plus side for some of you will be those undesirables such as walleye, smallmouth, spots and the other rough fish. Maybe even that colony of river otters.
Members Malarkey Posted October 10, 2009 Members Posted October 10, 2009 can anyone advise as to where the o2 reading is taken, is it at the dam or is it downstream somewhere. seems to me that all the water churning coming over the flood gates would put a lot of o2 in the water.
Luke Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 The first one I put up is from somewhere up by the dam. This one is from the College of the Ozarks. --Luke
Danoinark Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Any pics???? For us guys that aren't in the area. SIO3 Good idea. I wanted to go up this morning and be there when they turned it on to get a pic but didn't make it. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Leonard Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 flood gates open... Possibly a rise in water temp.. D O level dropping... possibly the browns abort the spawn.. 4 words come to mind... MMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!! Walleyes and smallies http://www.taneycomonights.com
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 10, 2009 Author Root Admin Posted October 10, 2009 MDC was out all morning monitoring the DO and temp. From what I saw, water temps and DO should be ideal for fish and fishing. As for the brown spawn, I assume you're referring to browns being up there to spawn and not the actual spawn cause they really don't spawn. They spawn IN the hatchery and the hatchery reports a good number of browns have already made it up the ladder. I don't think this will have any adverse affect on the browns moving up. I DO think this will dump some shad over the dam from Table Rock. I DO think this will help the DO levels in the lake for as long as the gates are open. I DO NOT think the water coming over the dam is too warm and it is mixing pretty quickly downstream from the dam. As for walleye and smallies... that remains to be seen.
