eric1978 Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Any of you guys care to share your favorite brand of tubes and why you like them? Having trouble locating the perfect tube in the big stores.
Dutch Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 I make some of my tubes but those I buy come from Fin and Feather in Spfld. They are down the road from Bass Pro on Campbell St. They also have a website called Ztackle.
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 I always liked the original Gitzits in brown and green craw. There was a fellow in Idaho who made some killer colors, his brand was Snakebite and he had a web site. I got away from tubes because of the swallow factor and I seldom use them now,so I don't know if he's still in business. Garlands brother bought Gitzit and was producing them in Utah, and he also had a site. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Paola Cat Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 My preferences for tubes: Gitzits in Brown Crawfish/Salt & Pepper and Strike King Bitsy Tubes in Watermelon Copper Craw. I've tried them all .... I always gravitate back to these. Sometimes a white tube can be good if the fish are keyed in on shad or other baitfish. PC Cheers. PC
smallmouthjoe Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 I've been using the BP brand and there pretty good. I would have to agree with PC on the bitsy tubes they have some really good colors.
fishinwrench Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Strike King and Mizmo are the only mass produced tubes that I like. I prefer the double-dip type that have a "waistline". I prefer tubes without salt, but I deal with rusty hooks and baits that tear way too easily just so I can use tubes with what I consider the proper shape. A size (and style) between the SK Bitsy and the SK Coffee tube would be perfect IMO. I'm just really hard to please when it come to my plastics, and I wish manufacturers would spend an extra micro-second and cut the tails right....that bugs the crap outa me.

I'm with you wrench, those are the exact problems I have with most tubes. I always sit there for a minute to pull apart the ill-cut tails. I also couldn't care less about salt, to me they just weaken the bait, and when you're paying 40 or 50 cents a piece for them, it would be nice if they lasted for more than one dink per bait.
Dutch Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Tubes aren't that hard to make. All you need are some rods and plastisol.
eric1978 Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 Tubes aren't that hard to make. All you need are some rods and plastisol. I considered that, but I don't fish tubes all that often. They're usually a desperation move for me. Might not be worth it to buy all the makings, I'd just like to have a couple dozen of a couple colors for a fall-back.
Wayne SW/MO Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Virtually anything ugly seems to work with tubes, but they can be hard on fish because so many swallow them. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
