Whack'emGood Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Hey!! I resemble that..... I really try to give you guys a lot of water between me and my boat. I think lurking on here has improved my boating etiquette. I know there are lots of ways to enjoy the lake. Thanks Jimmy. I wish everybody who has a boat like yours was half as considerate as you are. Have fun out there! If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
dtrs5kprs Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 A bit off topic, but I like the idea on the other stickbait thread of painting some of them belly up! - I would agree with the Sour Grape color, Aurora Blue and a Ghost Minnow color. - Oh wait, that won't work, the pointer is asymetrical. - dtrs, post a pic of the chartreuse foil with purple back you conjured up, that sounds awesome! (and I don't recall it's appearance when it was in your avatar) This is before the toothmarks were added And a closer shot of an upside down bait. These were shot with an old video camera about 5 years ago (closer to 7 on the purple rogue I think), so apologies for the quality. There are lots of little tricks with sticks, more art to me than painting a dozen of the same color wart.
motoman Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Holy Moly dtrs! THat purple and chartreuse looks GREAT! And I'm addicted to that belly up rogue. Looks like I may have to get some painted belly up. Too cool! - How many hours of your time do you have in each of those rogues? I'm just curious, it seems very labor intensive.
troutgnat Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 dtrs, wow those are some great looking rogues.! Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"

Hard to quantify hours. Start to finish each bait takes about a week, working a few hours a day on several baits. Rogues are a bit slower than warts for me b/c they are more individual -> more color changes ->more clean up, etc. When I shoot warts, I usually shoot a minimum of 6 each color, then work until all the clips on the turner are filled. I have a problem with addictive hobbies...painting baits, hand pouring plastic, rod building, and most recently reloading ammo. I have no problem running out of time unfortunately.
troutgnat Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 dtrs, I can totally relate. I have too many hobbies. Tying flies and crappie jigs, pouring lead heads and powder painting, reloding and of course hunting and fishing anything that breathes. It's a little tough sometimes to keep up with it all. Anyway, lure painting is something I have been interested in for a long time as well as building bass jigs. I have toyed with bass jigs but nothing serious yet. How hard is it to get into painting or repainting your own baits? Can one get into this relatively cheap? I have lots of good fishing lures that I need to repaint. Large original wiggle wart collection with many duplicates that I would like to repaint. What does it take? Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain.
