patfish Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I thought, hey, why not look for a job that has something to do with fishing?!?!? Not like stocking shelves at Bass Pro, Dick's or wherever; and there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with those jobs. So, I run across this place here in STL called U.S. Reel. I think wow, this is kinda cool and not too far from home. I get to looking around the website and..... from USreel.com I read this.... "U.S. Reel, headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, is an American company. The concept and design of the SuperCaster reel originated within these shores. Heavy initial investment, research and development, testing and refinements took place in the U.S. SuperCaster reels are manufactured to comply with strict U.S. Reel specifications and quality control standards in China. what a let down.... Guess I won't be putting reels together here in MO. Does anyone own one of these reels? There are no prices in the online catalog, so I'm thinking they're spendy.
fishinwrench Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I've seen them in catalogs. That big ol'spool looks kinda gay (like something out of a 1930 Abercrombie and Fitch catalog).....but maybe they are the dung.
brownieman Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Pat, What's up with that...are you above movin overseas and workin in one of those high payin sweat shops. Your gonna have to drop your pride buddy, lol. later on btw...you ever gonna be able to afford to fish agian ? My friends say I'm a douche bag ?? Avatar...mister brownie bm <><
Paola Cat Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Been on the search for 4 months .... finally hired a head-hunter. The job market sucks. If you look at the public boards .... a lot of those jobs are not real ..... they're dependent on future business or contracts ..... it's tough out there. It would be awesome to get a job in the fishing tackle industry. PC/Mike Cheers. PC
fishinwrench Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 If a guy was to train on PWC's there's a decent living to be made here at L.O.. Labor rate is about 90.00/hr. and the few good techs we have around here can't keep up. Of course it's seasonal, but you can make some serious coin from April-November, then fish all Winter.
denjac Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 If you are an electrical or mechanical engineer , I can get you a job tomorrrow! My sons is trying to hire some and cant fnd any, they have to hire out of India and China to get them. good profession to get into for the younger folks. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. flyfishmaster Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Patfish, Sorry to hear that you have not been able to find anything out there as of yet. Reports "say" things are coming around but I'm really not seeing that in any industry at least here in the STL area. PC, you are so right about the false Job Postings. I was infromed by recuiters they are posting jobs to get application, because their company is bidding on contracts and they want to know in advance what find of talent is avalible out in the market. In the I/T area, 70% of the jobs posted are companies putting out "feelers". I hate that. As for working in the fishing industry, I bet most of us on this forum would love to do that for a living. Having a job that you actually would enjoy. Gook luck with you job hunt Pat and Mike. I know your next job is just around the corner! Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
