dtrs5kprs Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Everyone must be working this week? No fish reports? Or is it the Heartland effect?
Members Doug Weston Posted October 29, 2009 Members Posted October 29, 2009 dtrs, I would give you one, but I have not been all month. If you need some help, get a hold of me when you are down. I need an excuse to take off and go. Doug JDC Baits
Champ188 Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Not a lot to offer but here's my take on things after fishing five days last week ... practiced Wed-Friday and fished the CPA Shootout on the weekend. Lake was falling hard, which probably helped make things tough. Of course, I threw a spinner bait a lot. Did find some keepers on shelf rock in the Kimberling City area. Seemed inside the pockets were better for this pattern with the better fish holding 5-10 feet deep and out from the bushes and banks. Little channel ledges in the pockets were key and having the wind blowing in definitely helped. Was slow-rolling a War Eagle half-ounce Screaming Eagle model in the mouse color along these little ledges. The only other halfway reliable pattern I was able to develop was pitching a 3/8-ounce War Eagle jig (green pumpkin-brown with a green pumpkin Zoom Lil Critter Craw trailer) around docks from KC to the dam. The most productive stalls were 15-20 feet deep and the fish were mostly smallmouth, including some up to 4 pounds. Be advised, though, Donna and I had to run a LOT of docks to get bit. Those in major creeks — halfway back and farther — seemed best. We did catch a few dragging a War Eagle football jig (brown-purple with green pumpkin double-tail trailer) along the channel drops in the back halves of the same creeks and larger pockets. We had a variety of weather conditions ranging from bluebird to dark cloudy with rain but were never able to develop any kind of topwater pattern. Nothing in the cedars (topwater or rolling a spinner bait through them) which really surprised me. Hope this helps.
vacation Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Fished sunday 2-330pm around indian point, threw a sexy shad crankbait, nothing...changed to spook, caught 1 nice keeper sm in 30 fow water around submerged pole timber, 1 short around a dock, then missed a nice lm around a dock. Went Tuesday night in the fog/rain 5-630, fished around docks with a spook, caught 2 short bass, partner caught 1 keeper on a spinnerbait under dock walk way and several shorts. Went last night 5-630, windy, clear skies, threw spinner bait around docks and nothing, then changed to spook and caught keepers in back of coves around standing cedars. Fish are there and many different ways to catcht them. So many fronts coming it that a pattern is hard to find...
dtrs5kprs Posted October 29, 2009 Author Posted October 29, 2009 Thanks all. Good info and breaks the tedium of waiting to leave for the lake. Much appreciated. Are you getting much rain in the area today? We are getting absolutely drowned in Kansas City.

We are getting absolutely drowned in Kansas City. It's headed our way! Could be a clean-up shower or a clear-up shower? In the Ozarks, a clean-up shower is when it's a nice soft rain, and you go outside and stand in it and you clean up! A clear-up shower is when it rains so hard that the water is clear up over your ankles!
skeeter Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Everyone must be working this week? No fish reports? Or is it the Heartland effect? Yep, your first guess is correct. Workin' on keeping me and my old boat dry
MOBass Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 With fall comes cooler temps, Friday high school football, Sunday NFL, and prep for the deer woods for those so inclined. All of these are contributing factors to the sparse reports. I was out fun fishing with my daughter on Sunday in the morning rain. Caught some shorts and monster bluegill around the 86 bridge on a drop shot gulp worm. We were just fishing for bites and it made a perfect day. We did find some whites busting but trying to get on them was like nailing jello to a wall. Saw one good jag of them on the electronics but they moved through fast and I could not get on top of them. Pulled a bone head move and need to get the trailer fixed so I am off the water until next weekend. Hopefully we will have stable weather of some sort by then.

All of these are contributing factors to the sparse reports. You left out... Saturday = College Football! "Success builds confidence, and you have to learn to trust your instincts and forget about fishing the way a tournament is supposed to be won. I'm going to fish my style and make it work for me." -KEVIN VANDAM "Confidence is the best lure in your tackle box." -GERALD SWINDLE "A-Rig? Thanks, but no thanks. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
dtrs5kprs Posted October 30, 2009 Author Posted October 30, 2009 You left out... Saturday = College Football! Right...we have that race to the first team with 5 wins in the Big 12 North...If it is KSU I will prepare for the apocalypse. Anyone putting a spoon in the docks?
