techo Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Managed to get the day off and took my favorite partner fishing. We started late and hit the water at about 9:30. We put in at Aunt's Creek and headed to a little honey hole I call Old Faithful. Apparently Old Faithful is a little imped about me not being around lately. I have renamed the spot used to be faithful, or slut for short. I stuck on main lake points and really didn't even mark any fish. Water temps ranged from 58 to 61, I finally managed to catch three small mouth, I guessed each one to be about twelve inches. My wife (who didn't catch a thing) said they were closer to nine inches. I had to take some time and explain to her how women don't see things at the proper size and with the cold water there would be quite a bit of shrinkage. As a matter of fact....if I would have caught the same three fish in July, they for sure would have gone 15 to 18 inches with the warmer water. We headed back to the ramp about 2:30. The Mrs took some time to practice backing the boat up the parking lot and down the ramp as there wasn't anyone around. I am thinking if I can trick her into backing the boat in, then I will get a chance to drive it on occasion. When I back the boat up I have a difficult time getting her out of the driver seat. All in all a great day with a wonderful person. Not a great success at catching though. All three fish came on the little Eakins pro jig in about 22 feet of water. Putting in at Mill Creek tomorrow and taking my son. I am sure he will concur on my size estimations. Hope you all are faring much better. Tim Carpenter
motoman Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Good report techo. That had me chuckling out loud. Funny stuff. - Certainly with your son out with you; as a man, he has far better vision and estimating skills than the mrs. Let us know how you guys do. - (And lets hope Donna G or any other fine ladies on OAF don't read this )

getfished Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I'm not thinking anyone is that thin skinned. But if they are maybe some one else will just start a new thread out of "respect" for them. GETFISHED !!! http://www.tacklespecialty.com/

gitnby Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Had a decent 3 hours today fishing shady side of docks with a Gitzit (tube bait, for you younger guys!) Anyone remember the old Fat Gitzit that Bobby Garland made famous? Man, that thing would catch some fish! I fooled around with one today and caught a few smallies(one 16"), just for old times sake. I took a tube in green pumpkin, cut off the top of the same color Large Hula Grub (Chompers) and fused it to the top with a Bic lighter. Make sure you heat up the tube, not the Chompers! You can also create the same look by cutting another tube in half and take the bottom half (tentacles) and flipping it upside down and fusing it to the top of the full tube. I just like the Chompers better! Feed it onto any type jighead. I use a small Football head. Works well on gravel flats or stair-stepping down flat rock ledges. Anyway, I caught 3 other keeps today (2 LM, 1 Spot) and maybe 8-10 others while pitchin the Gitzit around shady docks. Most of them seemed to be just inside the slips in 10-18', or up shallow near the walkways. I was using a tube that is primarily shad color (Grey with the big silver glittery flakes). I stuff some small packing peanuts inside the tube after I feed it on the jighead. Gives it a little more buoyancy. Not sure this is any kind of pattern, but they were joltin it pretty good.
Members tunchi Posted November 6, 2009 Members Posted November 6, 2009 techo, I have a golden rule, from when I lived in Texas, that measures up to 24 inches if you need to borrow it for next time you take your wife out fishing. Becky Becky B
Ranger Z22 Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Techo Thanks for the report. I will be putting in at Aunts Creek this weekend, and as you my wife is my favorite partner/boat backer. Surprised I have not run into you at Aunts Creek, we use this ramp just about every weekend. I usually fish in the AM by myself, the afternoons we spend the day on the lake. Having a house a little over a mile from the ramp is fantastic! z22
Champ188 Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Techo, please do not be one bit concerned about offending Donna. She will find your post as big a hoot as I did. No thin-skinners around our house. Glad you and the Mrs. got some time on the water. Donna and I are relegated to Beaver this wkd for a college bass team fundraiser Sunday. Pray that we don't fall asleep from boredom, fall out of the boat and drown.
