Members Lone Angler Posted November 13, 2009 Members Posted November 13, 2009 Just curious about the activity of the browns. Are they done trying to spawn, or was that sort of delayed because of the high water? What happens to spawning fish when the river becomes so unstable as it has been the past several weeks? This year I've hooked into some really nice rainbows every time I've come down, which is great, but I'd like to start throwing some articulated streamers for some big browns. Would love to break that 20" mark. Would I have more success trying to catch them on the swing in the deep pools, or trying more of a "jerk-strip" retrieve style in the shallower water? What kind of rod/line setup do you guys like to use with your big streamers? I'd like to be on the river as much as I can in the next few weeks, even trying some night fishing too. Sorry for all the questions. I'm just really pumped about chasing after some hogs. Even though I've heard it can be hit or miss. Any help would be appreciated.
Brian Wise Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Yeah, hog hunting is the most hit or miss game on the river....or really any river for that matter. I lean toward a 7wt setup. On regular water a floating line is usually 'ok' but a sink-tip is a lot more desireable. With all the water the fish have been really scattered around, like you, we have been catching nice rainbows but the photos of the big browns that we usually are throwing around this time of year are few and far between. We have had a couple hooked but they were on a nymphing rig. Brian My Youtube Channel
Kyle Kosovich Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 The browns should start to do their thing NOW that the water is down. I'm not sure how to get them to take a fly off the redd but would want a big rod, heavy line and a super sharp hook. Sad to say though I think it will flood again by the weekend and that will be the end of that. Lets hope I am wrong.... Kyle Kosovich Boat Builder/Guide http://www.LongboatOutfitters.com

Wayne SW/MO Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 You might get more response with a different title. Hog Hunting, in feral hogs, is an ongoing hunt. I suspect some may overlook your post, maybe, maybe not? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

fishinwrench Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Where is that Glen? Brian Just below Patrick bridge. It was a momma and 4 babys. If you study the pic you can see 3 of the little ones behind her, the 4th one was behind a limb.
Justin Spencer Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 We had a camper here at Sunburst say he saw a hog on the gravel bar two summers ago, I hadn't seen any damage, but had heard there were a few around Patrick, kind of dismissed it as fiction till I saw that pic. Guess we should all carry a rifle when fishing or floating, we don't need these things around.
