BredMan Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Looking at a few G3 boats.......does anyone have anything good or bad to say about them? My preferences are the new Gator Tough 1860 CC DLX 90hp and 1756 CC DLX 60hp. The other would be the new Eagle 176 model with 60HP. I don't pay too much attention to the marketing hype from boat manufacturers since they are all "better than the other". People that own and use them are a better resource for information! Would appreciate any feedback from anyone that has some knowledge of G3 products.
Ham Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 I love my G3. I have a 2001 HP 180. However, I had to replace my trailer that came with the boat recently AND I'll never buy another boat on a Bear trailer. I had issues with that trailer from day one. I had to have it rewelded multiple times. I had to replaced the bunks and the winch and the lights. I lot of work and an early death for a 9 year old trailer. If G3 is still using Bear trailers, I'd buy another brand boat rather than go down the road with that trailer. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Members JRay Posted November 23, 2009 Members Posted November 23, 2009 I own a 1548 that has been on a lot of trips since 2004 and I have no complaints about the boat. Mine seems to be put together well and I always liked the fact that if there was a problem, it was made an hour drive away.
wily Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 I've got a 2001 pro 175. welded 17.5 footer with a 40hp yamaha. which is comparable to the Eagle 176 according to my son...the best thing about it is...it's fun! my opinion is it's a great boat. perfect for the tailwaters and upper ends of reservoirs. i can sympathize with ham's comments....although i've never had any real problems with the bear trailer. I don't think it is a great selling point. my previous boat was a ranger, and the ranger trailer was great...easy loading. i can't say the same about the bear. doesn't seem to be made to the model as the ranger was. i would definitely buy a G3 over a Tracker or lowe -- i'd compare price on an xpress and buy the better deal
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 24, 2009 Root Admin Posted November 24, 2009 Ours have done well. Except for the seats. The material is pulling apart at the seams... not the seams but the material. They replaced them once but not again. They started coming apart just a couple of months after we got them. Make sure you get a good trolling motor. We upgraded from the package but should have went further up. We have 90's... boats are 20 footers. They don't come out of the hole real well. We've tried tweaking the props but haven't found anything that works. With one boater - it's great. two to three not so good. But I'm picky. Rides well, handles well when fishing, I like the way you can move thru the boat.
Members bigfatfish Posted March 13, 2010 Members Posted March 13, 2010 G3 boats are a pretty good quality. I spend 40 hours a week building them in fact. There are alot of things that I've personally seen on tracker and lowe boats that I know for a fact wouldnt pass inspection at G3. But if it was me I would go with the Eagle 176 for the simple fact that it has three pedestal holes on the front deck. I really want to try spider rigging with a partner. But good luck!
rps Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Apologize for kidnapping your thread, but I'm putting my 2006 Xpress HD18CC with 90hp 2strk Yamaha on the market. Its in good shape and has some extras. I'll be asking less than $10k. You might research them and consider saving some money. Just a thought.
Members Spearfisher Posted May 1, 2010 Members Posted May 1, 2010 I own a rare style G3, Its a fiberglass 18.5ft with a 150 yamaha on it and it is fantastic havent had any trouble with it its 11 years old and is aging gracefully. stickers are peeling a little but that not a big deal. I know most G3 are darker colors but i would avoid white if its an option it is a bear to keep clean. as fot the bear trailer i have never had any troubles just replace the boards every few years that about it! Members raildog Posted January 28, 2011 Members Posted January 28, 2011 I'm thinking about buying one. It is a G-3 1860 with a yamaha 90 4 stroker. A little concerned about the Bear trailer after reading the above comments.
