Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 4, 2009 Author Root Admin Share Posted December 4, 2009 In another part of a resonce from MDC on questions, I got this bit of info. Off subject but I'm going to follow up on this next year for sure. We sampled the bass and bluegill populations in 2008 and 2009 in the lower end of the lake and found that approximately 50% of the largemouth bass we sampled were over 12 inches and 20% were over 15 inches. 40% of the bluegill we sampled were over 6 inches as well. MDC I didn't know they sampled the lower lake.
Chief Grey Bear
What happened to your post about paying $103,XXX in taxes? I had a question about that. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 5, 2009 Author Root Admin Share Posted December 5, 2009 What happened to your post about paying $103,XXX in taxes? I had a question about that. There are several cause I screwed it up so bad. Nothing has been deleted. They're there.
Wayne SW/MO
If I'm not mistaken the Commision hss said the program must be self sustaining. I would also imagine there has to be some wiggle room in that. The wiggle room might evolve into a fee hike. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman. I thought is was on this page but, I had to go back a couple of pages. I was wondering what the sales tax rate was down there. But I looked it up myself. It showed to be a few different rates depending on what you are selling. But at any rate I picked one out of the middle and it looks like to pay $103k + in sales tax, you had to have sales in the neighborhood of $800,000. I understand your line of thought about Taney now. drew03cmc
I cannot follow that Chief. Taney has been labeled as imperiled, and I am almost certain that is for the lack of sustainability that the salmonids have. The state continues to spend all this money on an imperiled stream and it baffles me. Andy
Chief Grey Bear
What baffles me is that it is considered a stream????? I thought it was LAKE Taneycomo? The problem is it is over stocked. When the trout program was younger, the trout grew large and fat. The food supply was enormous. The living was easy. Just cruise around and eat. It went so well, it was decided to keep adding to the numbers of trout stocked. And today we have almost 3/4 of a million stocked yearly. You will not convince me that the equilibrium of trout and forage hasn't been breeched. Not to mention the other native speices trying to eek out a living in there home waters. Now, I have never seen, or will ever see trout as a cash cow for the MDC. I do see it as one for some others though. And they are gonna milk that baby to death! Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 5, 2009 Author Root Admin Share Posted December 5, 2009 Taney has been labeled as imperiled, and I am almost certain that is for the lack of sustainability that the salmonids have. The state continues to spend all this money on an imperiled stream and it baffles me. Historically, the trout program has been self sustaining due to the income from daily tags and yearly trout fishing permits. Recently, this has not been the case. The total income from tags and permits in 2008 totaled $1,851,803.38. The total expenditure to produce trout in 2008 totaled $2,219,332.97. They're spending $367,529 on the state's trout program. Not sure what percentage that is of their budget but it doesn't sounds like much. What baffles me is that it is considered a stream????? I thought it was LAKE Taneycomo? It was/is a imperiled river, Because it was/is imperiled, it's now a lake. Semantics. You will not convince me that the equilibrium of trout and forage hasn't been breeched. Not to mention the other native speices trying to eek out a living in there home waters. Not going to try to convince you... that would be way past my ability. But I will point out facts - MDC's report about the fish in the lower lake I mentioned before: We sampled the bass and bluegill populations in 2008 and 2009 in the lower end of the lake and found that approximately 50% of the largemouth bass we sampled were over 12 inches and 20% were over 15 inches. 40% of the bluegill we sampled were over 6 inches as well. I'd say that's at least alittle better than "eeking". Don't have the facts I can point at right now online but I will quote Clint Hale at our meeting a couple of weeks ago when he was asked what Taney's trout growth was per month and he said 1/2-inch. And I don't have to mention we had a fairly big brown caught a couple of weeks ago.

They contribute monies to SOH towards it"s continued operation. Now I have a question for you guys that live in that area. In what order were the 3 dams built that turned the white into a cold water fishery? It is my understanding that BS and Beaver are cold water discharge as well.
