You have to wonder why the LA Times is covering that story anyway. I don't think they do a lot of deer hunting in Compton.

Gotta kind of disagree with you here. It wasn't a clean shot and I don't know how proud I would be of the kill, but he was responsible for its death. His intention was to kill it, and ultimately that's what he did. It would still be alive had he not drawn his bow.

Not exactly the same as plowing one over on the highway.

I gotta go with eric here. If I recall the story correctly, in the 80's a former world record non typical whitetail was found dead in st. louis county. That buck made the books and listed the name of the person who found it.

Thanks for posting Pat. I heard about this at work, but didn't hear the whole story! Great story

The shot caused the deer's death indirectly. It wasn't the arrow that killed it, but the act of shooting an arrow.

The way it sounds the deer didn't run off and fall of the cliff, it sounds like it flipped or flopped as most animals do when you shoot them. This caused it to fall down into the creek, if it wasn't vitally wounded in the head I would imagine it would have got up out of the creek and run off, looking like a deer wearing something it bought at Spencer's gifts. Unfortunately deflections are part of hunting, and you can only hope that a deflection results in a quick death and not a gut shot, nothing bothers most hunters more than when an animal is wounded and not found, regardless if it is a monster buck or a little doe. Ideally all shots would be a shot through a wide open field, but often deer live in the woods where there are trees and limbs.
