rangerman Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 When the PWT held their tournament there, they were dealing with the extremely high water conditions which is difficult for anyone to fish. I would definitely like to see a tournament held there with the lake at normal stage. Sadly enough the PWT no longer exists. I run into guys fishing in South Dakota that speak of Bull Shoals and the fishery......It has to get some attention. Tax- where did the 48 pounder striper come from?

minnowhooker Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 There everywhere, I caught a 42lb between Bee an Bear last May and heard of two similar size ones coming out of Beaver. Not much to be scared of if your that big.
motoman Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Don't forget the one that drug you out of the boat - Whoah! Let's hear that story. Come on, don't be shy; talk it up.
Hotdawg Guide Service Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 The Arkansas Game & Fish stocked 45,000 last year and will be doing that for the next three years. Also Missouri stocks about 25,000 each year in the theodosia arm of the lake. Their were numerous fish caught last year in the 20-30 pound range with several in the 40 pound range. The state record was caught out of Beaver Lake Tailwater on 4-28-2000 and weighed 64.8 pounds by Jeff Fletcher of Golden Mo.This year will be and awesome ctching year on Big Bull because of the high water the last few years and I believe some othe records could fall. GOD bless Hotdawg! Hot Dawg Guide Service

Fishrman Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Don't know if this would be accurate, but wouldn't the stripers have a negative effect on the largemouth population? I believe I have heard that argument come from fisherman at Beaver. Over time, a large striper could easily eat a trophy largemouth.
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Don't know if this would be accurate, but wouldn't the stripers have a negative effect on the largemouth population? I believe I have heard that argument come from fisherman at Beaver. Over time, a large striper could easily eat a trophy largemouth. They didn't impact the LM's in Texoma. In fact some large fish, LM's, were caught by fishermen targeting stripers. The LM's did eventually succumb to environmental changes and smallmouth were introduced to fill the gap. Texoma had a large shad population that had virtually no predation of the adults, and the stripers changed that. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
taxidermist Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 No effect on the largemouth bass. even a 40 pound or larger striper would have trouble eating a bass over 3 lbs. The only time stripers are close to the same habitat is the spawning run. Lots of good bass coat even year in Norfork!! and its loaded with stripers.
