Zack Hoyt Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 I caught this little guy while fishing Beaver the other day. He was about as round as a half dollar and 4-5in long. I took the time to observe how he swam and acted in the water. Alot of the time we fish flies to mimic insects, fish, etc. but really have no idea how they look in the water or exactly how they look in real life. I figured this was a good picture to pass along. Micheal Kyle Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Did you catch it on a sculpin To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Zack Hoyt Posted December 9, 2009 Author Posted December 9, 2009 Michael, I tied a female sculpin pattern(since its spawning season) and watched my trap unfold.........jk. I was dead drifting a copper john. Thought I had a baby rainbow or chub when I first set the hook. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
eric1978 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 He's cool looking. Be a good addition to someone's freshwater aquarium. I read sculpins can live for several hours out of the water if they're kept moist. Great pics!
Wayne SW/MO Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 There is, or was, a lot of them in Bennett. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

laker67 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 There is, or was, a lot of them in Bennett. Still is Wayne, especially in zone 1. Look in water near the banks. Next time you see one laying still, ease your rod tip down close to him. More often then not they will nip at the end of your rod.

Yep, my daughter and one of her friends stood on one of the handicapped jetty's and caught a dozen or more on a John Deere mini-jig just dipping it around in the boulders there, and were putting them in a bucket. I made them quit and release them because I wasn't sure it was cool to be doing that. Although I wouldn't mind trying them for bait on a few holes in Z3
Jeremy Hunt Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Zack, Great photo, detailed. Thanks for sharing. Accept the drift.....<>>><flysandguides.comVisit my blog
