fishgypsy Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Thanks for the compliment. I wouldn't have expected a fish like this to come from that relatively small water, especially in winter. It kinda gave me a pretty good shock. Just curious, how much would a low end waterproof camera set me back? I have enough of a propensity to lose things that I'd better not buy anything too expensive. I have an Olympus 1050 that I like, and which was less than 200 bucks (I think around 150). It's waterproof, shock-resistant, and fits in a shirt pocket. I'd even consider buying something used from a seller who has outstanding feedback. Just get something cheap.
Gavin Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Nice catch.....Might look around for a Pentax Optio...I've been carrying a Pentax Optio WPi 6mp for around 5 years know. It been on hundreds of trips and its still working fine. Its no DSLR but it shoots decent pictures..Think the new one is the W80...but you might be able to find a WPi, W10,20,30, etc...for a lot less.
fishinwrench Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Congrats on the big Smallie. But I gotta ask.... Why would you fish a #8 crawdad on 7x ?
ozark trout fisher Posted December 22, 2009 Author Posted December 22, 2009 But I gotta ask.... Why would you fish a #8 crawdad on 7x ? To be honest, I was just being lazy. The leader I'd been using for trout all day was 7x, and I just didn't feel like switching it out. I don't think I had any stronger leaders with me that day anyway, cause I wasn't planning to fish for smallies.
Paola Cat Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 OTF .... Wow .... a 20" smallie that's awesome. Must have been real touch-n-go on 7X. That fish would have to be pushing 5 lbs. I've been fly fishing Ozark streams for 30+ years and have yet to hang one that big. Good for you!!!! I'll trade you some information re: your Adirondack trip (that's some of my old stomping grounds) .... for information on where I can get into some of that giant smallie action. PC Cheers. PC

That fish probably gave me the craziest fight I've ever had. I can't even count the times that I thought that tippet was gonna snap. I don't even really know how I got it in, but frankly I think I just got really lucky. Also, I'd love to hear any places I could hang into some smallies up in the Adirondacks... I found a few places where I could catch just about as many 8 inchers as I wanted, but I never found any quality fish while I was up there last time. I'd love to hear any place where I could tangle into any smallies in the Adirondacks. Last time I was up there, I found a few streams where I could catch a bunch of eight inchers, but I couldn't find any real quality streams.

Members Scudz Rule Posted February 2, 2010 Members Posted February 2, 2010 I have this one. Not the best in the world, but for 200.00 it does the job. Underwater movie mode is cool. Can't really beat this camera. Quality of pics is ok. It can be dropped, dunked, and its slim. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830184085&cm_re=optio_w80-_-30-184-085-_-Product
