Thom Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I was wondering if anyone has been to lakes 27 or 28 lately. With all of this warm rain and warmer weather I wonder if there are some breaks in the ice that can be fished. I might even try 32 or 33 for crappie. I know they are there and are eating something. I have been doing some tying and would like to at least give it a try tomorrow or at the end of the week. It is always fun to go there in the winter with my spotting scope and watch the deer and birds that congregate in the wildlife areas. Fishing just another bonus. I always have a flyrod and spinning rod in the roof of my Tahoe. Thom Thom Harvengt
fishgypsy Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I went out Monday and tooled around for the afternoon. There was enough ice off the water you could cast, but I only had one take in the three hours I fished. Kind of a bummer. Lake 24 looked esepceially festive- red, green, blue, pink, and yellow Power-Bait floating all in the water like a constellation of Christmas lights "I hope that someday we will be able to put away our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people." - Jack Handy www.fishgypsy.wordpress.com
eric1978 Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 I met patfish out at 28 today, and we spent a few hours in the drizzle. The lake's almost completely thawed right now, but it's gonna be frozen back over by next week, so I'd get out there soon. The bite seemed a little slow today, except for about a half hour we were tearin' em up. Probably caught 25 or so between us...jigs and woolly buggers caught some...eggs seemed most productive. This fish of Pat's was the best one: I still can't figure out how to post pics here without making them HUGE
Randall Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 If its too nasty and rainy for the muzzleloader I might make it out. Cute animals taste better.
eric1978 Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 There are NO fish at Busch... Right SIO3? Oh yeah, I should have mentioned that was lake 28 at some other conservation area. There are no fish at Busch, so we didn't go there.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 You wouldn't think a trout could live when you drive it all the way from Meramec Springs? SIO3 There no fish at Busch!!
Thom Posted December 24, 2009 Author Posted December 24, 2009 Keep that rumor going .... it is the least we can to prevent anglers from driving all the way out there just to get skunked. There are no fish at Busch and all of the trout in lake 27 and 28 have died of lonelness and starvation. They do rent plastic fish at the concession for picture taking however. I have seen some of the pictures on this forum. Great replicas. Thom Harvengt
BredMan Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Fished lake-21 and lake-22 yesterday. Caught a couple at lake-21 on a jig but couldn't get out of the cold and strong wind so I went over to lake-22. Wind wasn't too bad in the wooded corner but the levee side was still very windy and cold. Stayed about an hour and was skunked. Water was clear of ice on both lakes but I am sure they will start to ice up soon. Nobody on lake-28 as I drove past on my way home. Really wanted to get out today but just couldn't get motivated to cope with the wind again. Lakes may have iced up a bit too.
eric1978 Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Fished 28 today for a little while. The wind was ripping on the dam side and was just too cold to bear, so I went to the shallower side with the points. Tough bite today. Only one fish landed, another hook-up and lost fish, and two missed takes...that's it. Only stayed an hour or so. A lady with a black and yellow jig and a bobber the size of a baseball was tearing 'em up. My guess is the lakes will be frozen within the next 24-48 hours...the ice in the coves grew noticably in the short time I was there.
