joeD Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Has anyone tried throwing Spro suspending jerkbaits on the White? I mean throwing with any consistency. I'm anxious to lose $14 lures this weekend.
Ham Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Trout eat jerkbaits. So far, I have seen them eat Rapalas (F7,F9,X-rap), LC Pointers (78's and 100's), Spro McStik's, BPS plain and XPS, Jann's Springers, and Smithwick Rogues. Basically, I haven't found a jerkbait they won't eat. Does the McStik stand out above the crowd when fishing for trout on the White? No, not really, but throw what you like. You're not all that likely to lose one if you have good line and the ability to tie a decent knot. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
taxidermist Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Sure they will eat them!!! Just tell me where you loose em! Husky Jerk in the largest size you can find works well in rainbow trout color. If I post pics of some of the fish I have caught it make the fly guys mad. So to keep fromgetting the hate mail fom some of them I will not post the pics. It is my understanding of reg changes that Feb 1 2010, if you remove the barbs from the hooks, you canuse them in the catch and release areas.
joeD Posted January 21, 2010 Author Posted January 21, 2010 That's what I figured. Wanted to change up a little, see if I could gain an advantage over my fishing partners! Yes it is a competition. I see that the generation levels are starting to fluctuate a little. Figures. Steady generation for months, and the weekend we decide to go down, they start changing. Oh well, we'll deal with it.
joeD Posted January 21, 2010 Author Posted January 21, 2010 Looks good to me! Plastic with metal hooks, extremely appealing! The F11s are definetly may fave on the Current, but I'll throw them on the White only when the water is low. I prefer the Rogues, Husky Jerks, and Pointers. The McSticks are something new to buy and new to try. What's the point of fishing if you can't by stuff. I probably could go years without spending another dime, and still have lures to throw. But that's no fun now, is it?
cotterboy2007 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 I have not done to well with te MCsticks. for my money, i'd raher spend a few extra dollars and go with the Lucky Craft slender pointer, especially in the 112 size. check out some of my older posts. I have had some spectacular jerkbait days. What part of the river are you planning on fishing? Some weekneds, the C&R area is crowded, but most days, you'll b the only one there. I will say two of my favorite spots are both outside the C&r area by Rim Shoals.
joeD Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 The C& R area below the dam is closed until Jan 31. We stay at Gaston's and hire guides through them, usually Frank Saksa and Tom Something. Depending on the water, we'll usually go upstream a ways, sometimes past Newlands, then work our way downstream, usually going no further than Wildcat Shoals. We've only wade fished Rim Shoals, but with pretty good success. Cotter Boy, I do remember your posts about using a baitcaster and jerking the f*** out of a Pointer. It's a little different when you live out of town and only have a couple days to fish. You do what you can and thats it. You're at the mercy of the power company.
cnr Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 I think I may have to add a few LC Slender Pointer 112's to my box, I can't let JoeD get the upper hand on me. Sometimes the most expensive part of a fishing trip is the few days before I go! My wife has no idea how much money can be in that little Cabela's bag I bring home!
joeD Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 Resistance is futile cnr. Stick with your usual corn and Beetle Spins.

The bait monkey is a powerful creature. Frank is an excellent guide and jerkbait expert. The upper end has some fantastic fishing areas as well. I would say there will be some very good water for you guys this weekend as long as no more rain falls. It had been running full blast, so a little let up won't hurt a thing. It was a bit muddy today, but should be fine by tomorrow. I suggest the Table rock shad and Tenn. Shad colors as the top two.
