duckydoty Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 The crowds from opening day were definately thinned out today. Got to fish just about anywhere I wanted to today. The Lunkers have been thinned out also. There are still a few left, but they are very shy right now. Around noon the hatches started in full swing again today. Some kind of small blueish mayfly and lots of midges. The klinkhamer picked up a few but I decided to down size a little bit. I tied on a size 32 spent wing midge and could not keep the fish off of it. Picked up 19 on the little dry fly in an hour and a half. Watching trout take the dry fly is awesome! laker67 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 The Lunkers have been thinned out also. There are still a few left, but they are very shy right now. Sorry about the lunkers being gun shy. The "oldtimers", that I met up with on tuesday, worked them over pretty hard the first two days. I don't know what their count was today, but for the first two days the count was 10 landed, with about 10 more hooked up and lost. We did leave you two "good" fish in the twin falls area. Glad you had a good day on the dry fly. How do you remove a 32 hook from a fish's mouth?
Members kcfishnerd Posted March 3, 2010 Members Posted March 3, 2010 Yesterday I was able to fool a few on a elk hair caddis. That was the closest thing I had in my box and it caught about 10 or so. This trip was my first opener and it blew my mind. Way to many people. It cleared out pretty quick though. I had great luck with a beaded san juan both days. Now I am back at work and going through trout withdrawls. Sucks to be me!!!
timsfly Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I fished this afternoon for a bit, caught 4 and all were on a #18 elk hair caddis. I think I could have done better fishing a nymph, but the trout were rising and it is fun to catch them on top. I stuck 2 bigguns on Monday....hook come out on one of em and the other wrapped around a danglin stringer that had an 8 incher on it. That stringer was still danglin there this morning with the dead 8 incher. No name on the stringer though. No hook ups with bigguns today but did see a few. Removing the size 32 hook was not too bad. Just had to use my "IDEBDE" hemos. I saw your buddies today working over two nice ones below the tubes. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. timsfly Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 If I had know you were around I would have looked you up, I only stayed an hour or so, and then headed back to the house, I fished taney today also, but only for about 30 minutes at outlet 1 caught a few but couldn't stay long, had things to do.
