Duane just called me from his cell... was in the water catching whites as he talked. Just a few minutes ago. Said to get over there but I have a full day.

Nothing to do? Head to the James. The whites are biting.

I was down there today. I fished from Peach Orchard to McCord bend. I caught several but most were dink males on the prespawn run. I did catch 10-15 2 year old females that were in good shape and will spawn in a couple of weeks if they are left in the water.

I did not get down there till 9 a.m. and as it turned out, it was the tail end of the morning bite for whites.......but I did find something else that wanted to play, and they played till around 2 p.m.........Walleyes were biting good. I ended up putting three keepers in the live well with the largest being 27 inches. That is a new record walleye for me. I did loose one other large one around 24-25 incher right at the side of the boat. That would have made a limit of keepers. I can not imagine how the bite would be after dark and early morning for them if it was that good during the day. Blunk got crowded but it seemed everyone was getting along. Must have been 35 boats from Blunk down to McCord's bend. The whites were starting to bite again as we were leaving around 4 p.m. Gulp 3" minnows on 1/8 oz. jig heads picked up all of our fish today. We caught 7 or 8 spots today with one going about 2 1/2 lbs and one large mouth also.

Picked them up below Blunk Hole. I would start at the real sharp bend in the river with the bluff running quite aways down (I think McCord's Bend) and just drift real slow down the the 1st dock on the James. About a 250 yard stretch. Posititioned myself on the bluff side and cast towards the middle and just let it sink all the way to the bottom (12-15 seconds). Then bring it back real slow twitching and hopping. The bite was real soft and the lure would just feel heavy. Caught the largest one right in front of the dock.

What was the condition of the water? Clear? What kind of current?

I'm grounded till the NAIA basketball tourney is over at C of O unless I can slip away for a quick trip.

The water is clear now and 49° in the James. The Flat is gin clear and 47°. With 4 days of rain predicted that is all subject to change and those little studs may be all the way to Spfld lake dam by the end of the week with warm water and current to draw them.
