Members Jlowe Posted June 5, 2010 Members Posted June 5, 2010 Went home to West Plains for the weekend and went on a float trip with my brother and my dad. We managed to make a 5 hour float into a 7 hour haha. The fishing was great! We caught well over 40 fish and kept 14 goggle eye and 7 smallmouth. I also caught the my biggest smallmouth, 17 in and 3 lbs! The trip was great until the end when a drunken idiot tried to tell us smallmouth were not in season and that it had ended two days before that. Then he continued to tell everyone that we had illegally caught our smallmouth and a truck told us to watch the rules and regs as he drove by... but all in all it was a great day!
eric1978 Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Glad you don't live in my part of the state. Here we go.
rps Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Jlowe: You don't know this since you haven't posted here often. Most of the regulars here are catch and release for bass. Many are the same for trout. Most recognize the right of others to keep a legal fish for consumption, but some do not. You have unwittingly stirred a hornets nest. I think the only thing that might be worse is if you suggested eliminating all single barbless hook zones so you could harvest there.
Paola Cat Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Glad you don't live in my part of the state. What are you talking about? There's no fish in your part of the state .... you're 2 hours from anything . Cheers. PC
eric1978 Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 What are you talking about? There's no fish in your part of the state .... you're 2 hours from anything . Leave it to you to point that out. What I meant was, he's two hours away from the streams I'm two hours away from. So most likely he's not eating the best part of my next fishing trip. Happy? And RPS, I totally recognize his right to eat those fish, I just don't condone it. That's my opinion, and since he threw it in our faces I guess I'll express it. No offense intended. That 17 incher took nearly 10 years to get that size. Just a shame, that's all.
ozark trout fisher Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I saw this one yesterday and knew it was gonna be trouble-I was sort of hoping it would just slip by without anyone seeing it, apparently not. I'd better get some popcorn going, this is gonna be a good one.
jdmidwest Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 What exactly is wrong with eating a fish? Are you all vegetarians? "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

By my count, it could easily have been 18 brownies kept. Then, they get berated at the take out. Come on guys lets not beat him up here too. He was well within his rights to keep these fish. Maybe Phil should put some kind of a notice up for all new members to read that says "Beware of posting about legally keeping any fish on this forum". Just so you know, I don't keep smallmouth, largemouth, or SPOTS, but that's my choice. What exactly is wrong with eating a fish? Are you all vegetarians? UH, I think I might actually agree with you this time JD. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Paola Cat Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Maybe Phil should put some kind of a notice up for all new members to read that says "Beware of posting about legally keeping any fish on this forum". Right on Buzz .... this berating for keeping legal fish is getting old. Cheers. PC
Smalliebigs Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 paola cat, are you saying there are no places to fish with in two hours of St.Louis??????If you are you are truly foolish and just don't know but thats fine with me.Thats more kick butt rivers and streams full of smallies for me that you don't know about.By the way Manhattan,KS is the most dreadful city I have ever been to, I would rather spend weekend in the St.Louis county jail protecting my backside than spend a weekend in Manhattan.
