techo Posted June 7, 2010 Author Posted June 7, 2010 Great job Techo! Here is the best procedure that I have found for fizzing a fish. I use the through the mouth procedure. After inserting the needle, I hold the fish and needle underwater and watch the bubbles come out. I don't take all of the air out. Leave some in. When the bubbles start to slow down, I will stop, but I will check the fish periodically and sometimes I need to fiz the same fish again. I rarely lose a fish. Fizzing Link Here!!! Hey Capt Joe. I used the pushing the side fin down, go two or three scales out from the tip of it, slide the needle under the scale and then lift it straight up and push down method. I am not sure of the proper name. I will try the mouth method next time! Thanks foir the link. Tim Carpenter

The mouth method allows you to hold onto the fish easier during the procedure. Plus, I have read that sometimes fish will pick up a disease at the insertion point into the side. The mouth method is safer for the fish. There is a link within my link....be sure to click on the newsletter link Link and both procedures are discussed. CaptainJoe Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 On a side note....my usual tournament partner Adam is coming back from Iraq for a week visit in about two weeks. I have the bad news to tell him. The Mrs is my regular partner now as she really enjoys fishing the tournaments. I think that is some form of a "Dear John" letter. Sure sounds like one! Tfsh4bass Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 We have a small bottle of some orange stiuff that Captain Don recommended a few years back. We throw a capful in every so often. Surface water temp started at 83 and ended at 84 yesterday, with some fluctuation depending on where we were. I am not sure it would have mattered filling the livewells earlier or not with the water already so warm. Great suggestion though! Honestly, I don't worry about it this time of year because low to mid 80's water shouldn't be a problem for bass. For the KVD thing I had 3 in the well all day both days culling with all fish fine just doing recirculate and some Rejuvenade. I imagine the difference is more about deep fish vs mine that came out of 5-8ft water.

Techo - If you have a buddy coming in from Iraq who would like to just go fishing I would be honored to show him how to not catch fish. Seriously. techo Posted June 7, 2010 Author Posted June 7, 2010 Tfsh4bass, It probably makes a big difference on how deep the fish caught are. We were at weigh-in for about ten minutes and saw quite a few bags weighing in with dead fish. SKMO, You have offered for him before and he appreciates it. He is only home for a week and it is during his son's first birthday. He has missed a lot of his first child's firsts. I gather he intends to spend quite a bit of that week with his little lovely wife and the little booger eater. He has pretty good access to fishing as he is the one person I would let use my boat. If he ever does fish with you.....bring a chain saw! He ends up in the trees quite a bit. Seriously....he appreciates it and is a good man! He said to tell you thanks. Tim Carpenter

Just aim between the crushers and watch for bubbles as you hold the fish in the well. Figure it has to be better than feeling for the sweet spot thru the side, couple of good tools for it are available from the Calif websites. Have had to do it to FB jig fish, rig fish, even some fish I would have called schoolies that apparently zoom up from the depths to get a bait. Not always just the fish you know are deep.
Members JEVPhoenixBass Posted June 9, 2010 Members Posted June 9, 2010 Hey Techno! Next time you run into Capt. Don or me on the water give us a shout and we'll show you how to do the through the mouth method. I'm boatless until July but Capt. Don's out just about every day.
Outside Bend Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Out of curiousity...does anyone know if the ice has chlorine in it? <{{{><
