Tfsh4bass Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Terry, Ever wonder why the food cost so much more at a fancy steak house? It is the delivery. They cook that steak over an open grill pit and serve it on a hot steely plate surrounded by goodies. Taste good and people pay a whole lot more for it than if you cooked the same steak over an open grill and served it on a paper plate with some chips. Your delivery on advice , thoughts and suggestions were challeging to say the least. In the last few days you have made suggestions as to how to manage Table Rock like they manage the lakes in the far north which are covered by ice four months a year. Ozark folks don't care much for how other people do stuff as this is an area with a huge history. Then you suggest you don't have much respect for Missouri's version of the DNR. Some of those guys are actually friends of ours. I think a couple have spoken at seminars. I know you were talking about the practices, not the people, but again it is the delivery. You said them not their policies. To top it off.....you tell Babler you disagree with him and don't like black and white statements. He is a highly respected guide that has acked up his advice with 20+ pound bags in tournaments. On a topic labeled for the KVD fishing tournament in the Table Rock forum you post pics of small mouth bass caught on a MInnesota lake, asking if it brought back memories. I took that as a suggestion that you didn't believe I fished up there and committed the same violation of forum ettiquette. Another paper plate. Maybe shallow fishing works for you year around because it is your strength. In general.....Table Rock is a different kind of clear water lake and the majority of anglers have to go deep in the summer. If the guides come on here and give advice.....and it doesn't work....they get emails and PMs asking why they steered people wrong and asked why are they trying to keep people off the fish so they can have them for their clients. There really isn't much of a benefit for guides to post on here what is or isn't working for them as they fish almost everyday. It is mostly regulars that read and post on here and they don't hire guides very often as they have a good idea about the lake anyway. In other words this forum doesn't generate a lot of business for guides. I normally try to stay pretty politically correct and not make waves. You mentioned Bill made it personal. As an admin of the forum....I doubt he would respond to that. I was just trying to show another side. I expected a few fireworks out of him after your post as he is a feisty feller that has a passion for Table Rock and really wants people ot enjoy the fisheries. He ducked one time and told me to cast a red fin over his head at a fish that had swirled on the surface. I laughed at him. But that is how he is about fishing. He wants everybody to be successful and have a good time. So saying what works for you might have been a bit less challenging than saying you disagree with someone and dislike black and white statements. Of course I could be wrong! After all everyone knows food while camping taste way better than some steak on a hot steely plate at a spendy steak house. Point made..it is your guys forum and you are all buddies. I knew if I said anything against one of Bill's comments it would go down this road. I will just lurk like I always used to instead of posting. Also, concerning my pics you might reread where I posted the pics and you will see I posted those after quoting dtrs5kprs...nothing to do with you and I don't care if you fished up there or not.
techo Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 It appears I now used the paper plate. I apologize if I offended, i tried to reply to your statement about Bill and personal. I thought I wrote better than I fish and could pull it off, share some insight without offending to the point of chasing someone off. I hate to see you lurk as you obviously have skills the rest of us would like to know more about. Most people ( me anyway)would rather shallow power fish than finesse deep fish. I would rather learn than have you lurk. It appears you make some jigs and spinners too. I love the jig fishing and thought about making my own.....but if you hang around.....that might be another good topic to start up! Once again I didn't mean to offend and apologize of I did so. dtrs5kprs Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Always appreciative of any info from our guides. Apologies if I hijacked the other post referenced, thought it was nice to share some memories of common water. As for shallow bites, if I have one I like to keep it sort of hushed until I am done with it, since they don't occur too often on this pond.

My skills aren't any different than most and my point is/was you can catch good fish from 6" to 60' right now anywhere on the lake...not just one way or the other but all. That will obviously change as the water warms especially in the clear water but right now there are bass all over the water column. As long as I have fished Table Rock the first couple of weeks of June has always been one of my favorite times of year to catch cranking/spinnerbait/now swimbait fish from Baxter to the Dam on points...it isn't any different this year and it seemed to work for the winners of AIA on Sunday.
Bill Babler Posted June 12, 2010 Author Posted June 12, 2010 Anytime a preson grabs a post and inserts it into their own, that makes it personal. You are not responding to the thread, you are directing it to the person that made the post by inserting it into your own. The only ruder, or more personal reply is all caps. The absolute only reason I made the post about shallow fishing is becaused that is the number one question on my emails, website, and personal contacts. I speak to literally tons of people per week that are not catching them shallow, and wonder what to do. My post to get out abit was just trying to help. I will not make that mistake again. Eric Prey, Don House and I, along with the other guides ask absolutely noting from anyone except, not to be Barbequed here for trying to help. We still have to have thick skin. The major problem that people have with Table Rock, is they are not catching them fishing shallow. I offered an alternative. Please take it or leave it. If you are a shallow water guy, that has no trouble on the Rock, great for you. I wish I could say that. I and the majority of folks cannot. Not doubting you in the least, I just cannot guide on it. My problem is when you take my post and insert it into yours and then fuss at me, for trying to answer questions that are asked of me, I have a problem with it. As far as the AIA. Is that how the AIA was won last week? Really? Pete has derbies this weekend next weekend and the next weekend. Pete is a great fisherman and great guy, and one of my good friends. He might have had his boat in 40ft. plus, fishing 20 ft. runnouts, using a deep cranker, and a jig, up the James, or he may have been fishing squarebills, and buzzbaits shallow. You decide. Good luck to you all. And for gosh sakes, fish where you want. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
dtrs5kprs Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 For me, getting down out of the back ends of the rivers, and out off the banks was like turning on a light switch on this lake. Am still learning how and where, but am much more comfortable swimming or dragging something way off the nothing places. Have to give a lot of credit to some of the folks who are willing to post here, some local contacts, and quite a bit of stick time, both productive and fishless. Of course now I am completely eaten up with catching brown fish, and go thru 6# line like a spider goes thru webbing.
Members bluffboy Posted June 12, 2010 Members Posted June 12, 2010 Techo, DUDE!!! Have you considered running for public office? If so I would quit my job and be your campaign mgr. I have to fish with you some time. WELL DONE.
Stump bumper Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 That was a really nice article with some really good information I'm sorry it is gone. I don't know why a new idea makes some people angry, I really have enjoyed the sharing of information on this site and when you compare it to the Grand Lake or Beaver lake Boards there is a ton more useful information here. I got the point about getting off the bank, it is like opening a pizza shop in a small town that has 10 pizza shops already or going to a town that doesn't have a pizza shop. The guy who makes the best pizza can make it the town with 10 shops but if you go to the town were you are the only one in town you will sell a pizza. Bill please keep the information flowing you have a lot of fans following your advise.
