Illegal Fishing On Crane Creek

Kinda hard, as in impossible, for me to gut hook a trout with a #16 caddis. Neither the wife nor I care to eat trout so I'm not payin' for a stamp.

But, back to the original post...yes, that burns me too. I see it frequently on the Blue Ribbon areas here around Rolla. I've met a couple people fishing with worms and explained the regs to them. One guy had his kids with him and he wasn't fishing himself. He was also parked where there wasn't a sign so I don't believe he really knew. They quit when I explained things, thanked me whereupon I suggested some other public waters close to Rolla where they could fish with worms. He was a nice guy and we had a good conversation about kids and fishing. The others played dumb....they knew. They had to walk right by the sign. I explained the law in as nice a way as I could then attempted to explain why. They got snotty and I said fine, I'll walk back up the the truck and call the Conservation agent and they could explain to him. They left in a huff. And the litter pigs...makes ya wanna hang them from a yardarm. I was over at the Rt. 8 bridge on the Meremac this morning, just above the park, and picked up a garbagebag full of beer cans and fast food resturant trash just in the parking lot. I absolutely cannot understand why people are such complete idiots, uncaring and inconsiderate of others when it comes to their trash. I'll turn litter pigs in at the drop of a hat.

I don't keep trout either. But I do buy a stamp. It helps in more way than you may know. It's only $7. Hopefully you spent more than that with the local merchants the last time you were there. And it is really gonna suck when you hook the next state record. And if you ever fish Taney, its gonna suck even worse when you hook the new world record. You just never know.

It probably fell out of the poor guy's truck after he caught his limit at Roaring River.... A whole box of San Juan worms on the loose...

F.Y.I., the Federal Duck Stamp is still issued in Lick and Stick form as of last year. You will have to sweet talk your local postmaster into ordering them as they are a special request. I always sign mine in erasable ink so you can rub it off after season is over..

Generally you only need a trout stamp if you are keeping fish, but you need one if you are fishing at all above the 64 bridge on Taneycomo. A buddy of mine said a MDC officer told him he needed one to fish the NFWR, but I don't believe it.

Illegal immigrants pose a problem with this as well. Not so much in the rural areas as in the urban or semi-urban, but I've talked to several people who say folks show up who can't (or pretend not to) speak/read English to fish. They keep everything they catch regardless of size or species. Since they're not in the system, there's no real way to police them. Give them a ticket and they'll just disappear.

That's not true everywhere. The poultry industry in this area does a good job of supplying them. I don't think they are all illegal either, either way they bring the bad habits of their country to ours. I don't know if their fishing habits are are as bad as their habit of trashing places. The areas I run into that they fish often are full of trash, they don't carry anything out.

As long as we're passing out blame, there's a lot of enforcement issues around the Rolla area, due in part to the folks at Ft. Leonard Wood not doing their homework before heading out to the stream.

To me, the immigrants generate no more trash and are no more of a problem than a few of the locals who have been there for generations.

I find it hard to believe you've never been responsible for a trout's death. And even if you don't think you have, you have, and you should pay for the stamp...all $7 of it. What happens when you hook a big fish on light tippet and have to play it so long you can't revive it? Just let 'm float down the river I guess. Very cool of you. It's a tiny amount of money for a ton of enjoyment, and if you're going to use the resource, you should be willing to fork over the few measly bucks.
