Champ188 Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Troutgnat, Donna and I were over at Bull a few weeks ago for the Central Pro-Am derby and fished five days. I can't tell you how many walleye we caught but I'd say we averaged 10 a day and probably could have doubled that if we'd not been intent on finding a bass bite. Thing is, out of the "around 50" we caught in those five days, we had one keeper. Nearly all of the rest were between 17-18 inches but not quite 18. They either know when to quit growing or that lake is about to be slam-darn full of keeper "Walters." At the time we were there, we fished from the dam up the Theodosia arm to the bridge. Every flat gravel point with flooded green brush was loaded with walleye. Caught nearly all of them on a 4-inch Kinami grub in Natural Shad color rigged on a quarter-ounce leadhead.

We were there that same weekend and practiced that Saturday before the team event and we used exactly the same thing when we caught our walleyes. Did'nt measure them but they seemed about the same size. You must have been talking to Chris at Hook Line and Sinker about those Kinamis Lol. That Natural Shad is awesome. We struggled Sunday but did catch a SM that was 3.84 on that grub. Good luck the rest of the season I will look you up at Stockton. Thanks for all the info.

Hey SoreThumbs, yes that Kinami Natural Shad is a killer on pretty much any of these Ozarks lakes. I've even caught em on Beaver on it, which is always the acid test for any bait. LOL. Yes, look us up at Stockton. Would enjoy visiting. I found out a few weeks ago that, like Donna less than 2 years ago, I have kidney cancer. Good thing is it's Stage 1 and cure rate is above 95%. Originally looked like the surgery plan was gonna knock me out of the last CPA derby on Table Rock but I'm now scheduled for the knife on Aug. 25 so will get to fish all the qualifiers and should be back in some semblance of fighting form for the championship on Grand. Might even get to fish the team championship on Norfork in September but not sure about that. Again, look us up at Stockton. See you there.
rps Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Champ: Sorry you have to deal with the cancer, although I'm glad to hear the odds are way in you favor on this one. You have my thoughts and best wishes.
Quillback Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Yeah Champ, sorry to hear that, but the odds sound good, best of luck and we're all pulling for you!
Champ188 Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Thanks to all of you. I'm keeping my chin up and hoping for a brief down time.
Members Nolan_Whaley Posted July 11, 2010 Author Members Posted July 11, 2010 Good luck Champ, hope that is short downtime. Took the advice and went to Bull Shoals on saturday. Fished out of buck creek area with limited success. One short fish off main lake point, and one 3lber from a dock. I needed to find some sort of structure, and just didn't. Not bad for a first trip, with no other info. Very fishable, water veeeeery clear. Didn't get swamped, and that was nice.

Sam Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Good luck, Champ. I've got a friend here in Ozark who had that 15 or 16 years ago. The docs fixed him and he's fine. I avoid the 10' summertime Tablerock wakes by fishing at night, and/or heading for Bull Shoals. I've found that Tablerock Dam, the length of Lake Taneycomo, and Powersite Dam break those waves just fine and they don't make it to Bull Shoals.
